Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.

Yes, but . . . why!?!?
That's my question. Are people so taken by the illusion of scarcity and Lucas' denouncement that there is a pressing desire to bring this back in to the foreground, for purposes that yet escape understanding?

It was pure 1978 cheese. I watched it first time around, so have a bit of a soft spot for it. It can't be taken seriously of course.

It does keep getting referenced since The Mandalorian. I seem to recall there being a reference to Harvey Korman's multiple armed chef character in something recently.

High-Definition Television Promises Sharper Crap

It's just so damn boring. It wouldn't be so bad if it was weird and off-putting but it also had decent pacing. As it is, hearing people describe it is way more fun, even in exhaustive detail as on the last Agony Booth (pivot to video, my ass! You'll pay for that one, Zuckerberg!).
Seeing the reactions was more entertaining. I don't find it very good as a story.

Some Star Wars fans love the idea of seeing the main characters in live action in a state between ANH and TESB. Others might be old enough to remember watching it first run, and perhaps get a sense of nostalgia about the way SW was presented when it was still a relatively raw concept and not a "saga".
