I hope one day they'll decide to do a true, one-movie remake of The Hobbit.
As one of my friends said, "I feel like I've been cheated out of a fantastic stand alone movie in favour of 3 studio dictated mediocre movies." She is waiting to stream the third movie when it becomes available.
I too mourn the loss of the truly amazing stand alone single film.
"Multiple News Sources report that Bendict Cumberbath's Character Smaug will not appear in the third film at all. From what I've been reading, the scenes total seven minutes and is a vital component of the whole storyline that the 'masses' should see in the theatrical cut of TABA. Of course these scenes will be included in the DVD 'Special Edition' of TABA. I've got tremendous faith in Peter Jackson's talents as a filmmaker. I've been a fan since his first movie but haven't read the Hobbit book...yet. (I'm waiting for TABA to hit the theaters) Given the fact that I haven't read the book but am a huge movie snob, how can you not have any sort of resolution of a character that has played a key component in the three movies? Articles on this story can be found at BBC, Cumberbatch Web, and theonering.net."
Actor Benedict Cumberbatch has said he was mystified to learn that his key scenes have been dropped from the third Hobbit movie. Cumberbatch, who also plays the Necromancer in the trilogy, said he had expected to appear in seven minutes' worth of climactic scenes.
"Of course I am very shocked, that's all I can say," he told ITV1's This Morning on Wednesday.
Cumberbatch fans have now started an online petition to restore the scenes.
"As far as I'm concerned, I'm only telling you this because it has been revealed on the internet, someone has talked and it certainly wasn't me," he told the UK TV show.
"If you want to know why you would have to ask the company New Line or director Peter Jackson and his associates because I still don't really know why.
"I can't say any more because I signed a confidentiality agreement and I honoured my word."
Asked if he would attend the première, he said: "No, what's the point? What's the point of going? None at all."
Ah, I see now. I just read the quotes. The answer is in the links![]()
The first film had solid character arcs and a ending that gave closure, not to mention a lot of interaction between Gandalf and the Company. This movie just abruptly ends in the middle of a story when it seems to be about ten minutes away from its conclusion, which just befuddles me. I assumed that movie 2 would be about Smaug and movie 3 would be about the battle. So the best way to end movie 2 is to kill the dragon. Gives closure to the story.
