<<They already set her up as a warrior in FotR, so it wouldn't have been that out of place. >>

They actually filmed several scenes of her fighting at Helm's Deep before they changed their mind. It's just a shame that most the prominent female character in the movies was reduced to lying around pining for her boyfriend and then literally laying around and dying. Her one cool moment was "If you want him, come and claim him!"

I loved Arwen in the movies, and her role in "Fellowship" is the reason that is my favorite of the trilogy.

Yep.

Remember in the last charge of Théoden, Aragorn, Legolas, and the last surviving Rohirrim at Helm's Deep, right before Gandalf and Éomer showed up to save the day? If you'll look closely, you'll notice that there are two Legolases in the group of riders. That's because they originally filmed Arwen there, but after they decided to cut her out of the scene, they CGI'd Legolas over her but left the other one, too.

You can also see brief shots of Arwen fighting in the background during the same scene.

Tolkien already wrote a perfectly good Elf warrior in Glorfindel. It was a shame we did not get to see him on screen.

I remember when FoTR came out in 2001 - I had a friend who was friggin MAD for Glorfindel.

As it had been about fifteen years since I read the book I got completely mixed up and thought Glorfindel was Tom Bombadil's wife ( Who is ACTUALLY named Daisy Mae or Goldilocks or something equally insipid!).

I was extremely confused when he kept asking me, "Is Glorfindel in the movie? What does Glorfindel do in the movie???" and I told him, "No, she ISN'T because Tom Bombadil ISN'T IN THE MOVIE!!!!!"

:guffaw: :guffaw:   :wtf:

As random encounters to an ongoing adventure they were fine.

As part of the overall quest (which given the film's run time they kinda have to focus on) they do detract from the pacing somewhat. And I really don't mind Bombadil myself, either.

Huh, just realized.... I still haven't seen Battle Of The Five Armies. And I just can't get myself excited enough to do so.

The first Hobbit movie was fun enough. The second.... A lot of people I know claimed it was better than the first, so I figured, let's go for it. I felt it was really just all over the place.

I don't know. I guess one day I'll muster up the will to watch the third, but really, the idea of watching ROTK EE even though I know it by hard gets me more excited than Five Armies.

I liked the EEs of both An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug better than the theatrical editions, which is weird since the movies were already padded out way more than they needed to be. I guess it's just because I thought both EEs added scenes that should have been there all along (preferably in place of stuff that didn't need to be there).

The LOTR EEs, absolutely.

The Hobbit EEs, undecided. Bits of them are OK, but others...dunno

I know I rented the movie, and I know I played it on my TV, but I still don't know if I've "seen" it. It put me to sleep 3 times before I finally got to the end credits.

I don't mind Bombadil in the books, but I'm glad he was cut. But, I think if the Peter Jackson of 2015 could make the LOTR trilogy again, he'd probably make 3 movies per book, and make one whole part of a FotR trilogy all about Bombadil

When The Hobbit was in development, five or six years ago, and they were talking about the two-film plan, I actually thought that using the Barrow-wights, Old Man Willow, and Tom Bombadil in The Hobbit would work as an additional adventure for Thorin's company. Obviously, the stuff with the Ring wouldn't translate, but the rest is so generic that you could drop in Dwarves and it would work.

Thankfully, I guess, we didn't need any of that. :)

I think TDOS is just a badly paced film no matter what version you're watching. I can never watch it in one sitting, I watch the EE in at least three separate installments like it's a miniseries.

I mean, no one gives a **** about Laketown politics. You'd think I would care about Laketown since I've been into Middle-earth since around 1980. But I just don't. I mean, I like that they got the helmets right, so there's that.

and then meeting him again at Dol Goldur just so he can shove in some LOTR dwarf-ring stuff and leap to his death!

He didn't leap to his death, he was killed by Sauron.
