The Hilton's true colors

Glad I saved a PDF of Quark's menu before it was taken down. You would think the Hilton website would have been updated already seeing as how the new owners want the place gone as soon as possible. I wonder if they'll also get rid of the Star Trek slot machines.

I too grabbd a PDF of Quark's menu.

I got an email from the LV Hilton yesterday (which I promptly used to remove myself from their mailing list) which featured shots of the main sign outside sans the STTE logo. I wonder if it's already down IRL or if they just photoshopped the picture.

The loss of the website was sudden and is depressing. The phones still ring at Quark's, though. I used a book of Quark's mnatches the other day and on a whim called the restaurant in the middle of the night. The recording still lists hours and asks you to leave a message.

Hey Biggshow, you'd probaly know this: any chance the departing performers got to keep their costumes and/or appliances? Obviously you've been able to recreate Kralk after the fact. I'm just wondering if there's a chance we might see any of our other old STTE friends as part of some con or another sometime.

Even if the characters can't appear, it'd be nice (and wise) of some convention to book a panel of the actors. As you've pointed out, you lot have some fascinating stories to tell.

Finally, would you be so kind as to update us whenever one of them gets another job performing in some venue? I'm sure a lot of us would like to continue to support their careers. I promise I won't go to a play or stage show in uniform or anything like that!

Suspecting how the owners feel about star trek, odds are the sign is already down. Oh well, it's not really gone as long as we remember it. I'm still depressed over it being gone.

Officially, the actors had to give back everything that they checked out. See how that sentence is ripe with loopholes.

The reason Kralk was able to make a reappearance is that when Cedar Fair took over, they got rid of a lot of old costumes by auctioning them off. Before that, they let the current cast members take a shot at buying them first. So my friends got me my old pants, furry shirt and leather vest. The forehead...er...fell of the back of a truck, yeah, that's it. The rest I got online, or from Dan Hauglin, a regular (you probably saw him there on closing as an old school Klingon) and unofficial prop maker for the Experience. Due to the closing, there was apparently a push made by CBS to have Cedar Fair destroy any remaining costumes, etc. Don't really know if that's true but I do know that several aliens were trying to find more of those trucks I mentioned above.;)

As for appearing at other venues, the folks backstage treated their characters with a bit of personal reverence. In trying to maintain the illusion, I don't think they would reappear in anything less than ideal conditions. For myself, not having access to the same quality of material that I had when I worked there wreaked havoc on my own sense of professionalism (The forehead looking so grey in photos really irks me, for instance). That is one of the big reasons Kralk did not make a reappearance on closing day. I'm guessing the others feel the same way.

I will be more than happy to report on any new developments in their further careers. Paul (Voqha) has already had a few nibbles on his burgeoning improv career so we'll see.

I think the personal reverence the actors had for their characters are what made them and by extension STTE so special. It wasn't like going to Caesar's palace and seeing some bored centurion walking around. STTE had real Star Trek characters brought to life. My thanks to biggshow and all of the other actors that made it all come alive. Without you guys, it wouldn't have been anywhere near as special.

Dr. Vlarg is sitting in my garage. There he will sit until I can get a proper mannequin. And there he will remain, forever, never to be sold, never to be worn again. EVER. Possibly behind glass, if I can afford it.

So the "Ark of the Covenant" treatment, then... I can understand that. Hey... maybe they'll sell you that box containing the Ferengi by the stairs... cuz I'm sure you have money just falling out of your butt.

I'd still love to see them reunite a bunch of you guys on a panel at some con or another, even sans costume and character. :techman: The Couchcast stories you guys told really whet my appetite.

I'd also love to see Biggs get the "backstage book" he was talking about together.

I guess what I really want is to travel back in time, as K'Stran suggested, and live through it all again.

Thanks again, Doc... to you and all of 'em. It was something special... magic... while it lasted.

Intrepid: If you cant get anyone else to send it to you let me know I have a copy. I'm new to the BBS so don't' know what the best way to get your email address is without you having to post it.

Let me Know
Kev

It wasn't my intent on this thread to start a "They called us Nerds!" debate. It was just to bring attention to the fate of the Enterprise and I happened to see that comment and I guess my emotions got the better of me after seeing that proud ship go down.

Whatever the future holds for another STTE like place, I'll always have fond memories of the place.

Dale, are you going to dress up as the Ferengi again for halloween? That alien bash was sweet in 04.

Kords! Nice to hear from you again! I lost track of you and a few other people when the STTE board folded a few years ago. I still have a pic of us at the party, I think...

That's you, isn't it?

That makeup certainly wasn't up to STTE snuff, but it served me well that night. I still have it, but the headpiece was excrutiating to wear... very hot in there. I have real empathy for the STTE cast of alien performers who wore similar (who am I kidding? vastly superior!) pieces day in and day out for our amusement.

I wonder if they got to keep their costumes and makeup appliances. I kind of doubt it, but it would be nice to think of ChuroQ or R'ogl or one of the others turning up at a convention once in a while.

Where are these nerds everyone's talking about?

I shall have to post some pictures when I get home and see if any of you are in them? I remember on the receiving end of the "Butterknife joke," but it's so good I'm sure it was used by lots of the klingons.

I also had a conversation with a Ferengi about the latinum/US Dollar exchange rate. I asked him what he was doing on Earth in the US if the dollar was worth so little. He said that he'd discovered that hewmons will pay anything for something with the words "Star Trek" printed on it.

Ok, here's my Ferengi friend who gave me some good financial advice as well as a fellow fan who I met there.

And here's the Klingon who I argued with over whether or not Chang acted with honor.

Are any of you in these pictures?

That is Bleeg and Churoq.
If someone could explain how to post pictures here, I could show you the infamous picture of Dr. Vlarg getting oomox from Majel Barrett and Kralk backstage with "Kirk".

Use an image host (your own or a place like photobucket) then get the image url and put it between (img) and (/img) but replace the ( with [

First, you have to have the picture hosted somewhere online, like photobucket... it can't be uploaded directly from your computer to the board.

Once you've uploaded the picture to a hosting site, find it in your list of pictures and look for the box below it marked "direct link." Ctrl-C copy the link listed.

Come back to TrekBBS and write your post. When you get to the point in the post where you want your picture to appear, leave the cursor right there and click the little box above the message box in which you are writing that looks like a little mountain with a little sun above it. That is the symbol for a picture.

Ctrl-V paste the link you copied into the box that will appear and click the OK button. Your picture should now appear in the message.

Once you get the hang of it, I hope you'll post lots of pics as I'm sure you have gathered a lot of good ones over the years!
