The Hilton's true colors

they're brunettes. they just dye blonde.

either way they're airheads. that was just terrible, but to be expected as they wanted to get rid of it asap. :(

I watched the video. It is not as sad as thinking about Paramount's mass selling of all Star Trek sets and costume items to Ebay retailers.

I don't think it's so much being called a "nerd" that I take offense at, it's just the total disregard to a customer base. It doesn't seem like good business to me.

In the end, what's done is done, and we can only hope that an Experience-A pops up somewhere in the future. While I am biased since I live in San Antonio, it'd be nice if it came to the riverwalk as a nod to O'brien and Bashir's fascination with the Alamo, but I'm just dreaming now.

I'll always have my memories of that place and now that I have the recipies to my favorite drinks thanks to the guys at uglycouchshow.com I can recreate Quark's to a degree.

Someone actually filmed some the Klingon Encounter ride and the Borg 4D ride and posted it on youtube, not the best quailty but it's the best that we have now.

I’m kind of amused when someone uses the term “nerd” or “geek” because it defines the speaker more than it defines the target.

“I called that person a nerd because I’m totally shallow, uncaring, unintelligent, and self-absorbed. Ain’t I just so cool?” :guffaw:

Nothing to take offense at, every job every where someone or a group of employees is making fun of the customer base. Taking it personally or getting offended at, IMO, is just being a bit thin skinned about the whole thing.

And honestly, I didn't any real emotional response to seeing the 1701 model disassembled, it was just a replica not the studio model. And even then, it's just fiberglass and wires in either case. If anything I feel sorry for the people put out of work with the closing.

It wasn't my intent on this thread to start a "They called us Nerds!" debate. It was just to bring attention to the fate of the Enterprise and I happened to see that comment and I guess my emotions got the better of me after seeing that proud ship go down.

Whatever the future holds for another STTE like place, I'll always have fond memories of the place.

Dale, are you going to dress up as the Ferengi again for halloween? That alien bash was sweet in 04.

I saw this thread on Star Trek.com's message board and it was like pouring salt into an open wound. Thankfully a group of guys were able to save the Enterprise when the Hilton's owners wanted her destroyed cause she "was in the way". It's a depressing video, but at least she was saved.

Under the comments section of this youtube page someone left this nice gem "Yes - the current Hilton owners recently refered to the Experience as "the place that attracts all the nerds". "

I will never step foot into another Hilton hotel again due to their blatent lack of respect for a franchise as storied as Star Trek. I hope whatever profit margins they had due to visitors going to the TE and then gambling into their amaturish casino will plummet.

Long live the Experience!

The hiltons are of sub-standard intelligence.

She didn't go without a fight, eh? I'm glad I got to visit it. At least I've got some photos.

If/when I return to Vegas, I won't be going to the Hilton. Not as any kind of protest, but, as others have said, there's really no reason, now.

I was also reading somewhere that The Hilton is not even renewing Mainlow's contract, so one has to wonder aside from conventions what is going to be the draw to wander off the strip to go there? I guess they're banking on the elvis statue in the lobby.

I'm going to go out on a limb and thank the Las Vegas Hilton for humoring our obsession and allowing us to actually visit the physical manifestation of our obsession for more than a decade. Every time I visited the Experience (and there were many visits), I told my friends, "I can't believe someone actually built this place. We are really lucky."

^^^^^The fact that there is a monorail station at the Hilton, ironically, right outside where the Experience used to be, might be their only draw. If you go to Vegas without a car, and don't want to be raped by the prices of the taxis, you're left with the monorail.
As for the offense of the term nerd, I may be overly sensitive. Oh, well. We are who we are.

While I am thankful that we had the opportunity to have a place like STTE, it's sad to see that place go. I haven't been this depressed about anything Trek since DS9 ended.

I made numerous visits to the Experience and now a trip to Vegas is going to feel empty. As Fall out boy says "Thanks for the memories"

And this is the sort of over-reaction that makes people think all ST fans are total freakazoids.

You beat me to it.

If you look at fandom as a kind of parabolic arc, with the real nutjobs at the base of the swing, I am somebody who has been through it and is rising out the other side. I simply don't have the time for it anymore and nothing really interests or excites me much - I've seen it all eighteen times before and no matter how many bells an whistles they add into their CGI, it don't hold my interest.

As somebody who can now see fandom from the "normal" side of life, I have to say, I am very glad I got out of it.

Actually, it is the one model that was used in the ST films. It was supposed to light up like the other models but the interior wiring had degraded too much and they never had the time/money to replace it.

I always wondered why that one didn't light up, it would have looked even better. Was the bird of prey model just a random model they put together or was it also a filming model?

Kords! Nice to hear from you again! I lost track of you and a few other people when the STTE board folded a few years ago. I still have a pic of us at the party, I think...

That's you, isn't it?

That makeup certainly wasn't up to STTE snuff, but it served me well that night. I still have it, but the headpiece was excrutiating to wear... very hot in there. I have real empathy for the STTE cast of alien performers who wore similar (who am I kidding? vastly superior!) pieces day in and day out for our amusement.

I wonder if they got to keep their costumes and makeup appliances. I kind of doubt it, but it would be nice to think of ChuroQ or R'ogl or one of the others turning up at a convention once in a while.

That's me Dale. That was an awesome party. The Enterprise finale party wasn't nearly as fun. I can still remember when we did that ride and an Andorian (your wife), a Ferengi and a starfleet officer beamed aboard the Enterprise, now there was a missed kodak moment.

I have a lot of respect for the actors that entertained the guests at the bar and throughout the experience. It'd be nice if they turned up at a convention or something.

I remember Churoq insulting a friend of mine by saying "A warrior's blade should match his wit, here this is perfect for you" picking up a butter knife and handing it to him.

I wish I could have been there for the finale, but work got in the way.
