"The High Ground"- season 3

Korasine

Ensign
Does anyone think this episode is just the bee's knees?
I recently rewatched this episode and I remembered how great this episode was and all those season 3/4 TNG episodes were. I forgot how TNG episodes really used to explore vital issues (in this case terrorism) in a meaningful and clear way.
And aside from the very interesting message, I also forgot how much I loved the look of those older TNG episodes, the set design was just really special and of the time and I get quite nostalgic about it - there's always muted colours and lots of potted plants lying around these alien worlds, very cosy.

Well in conclusion, I think this episode is one of the finest Trek has to offer.

I agree. This episode is thought-provoking. It's one of my favorites. I like how they didn't answer the question of where the boundary line is between terrorism and freedom fighters. The ambiguity is what gave the episode power.

This episode is one of my favorites. Kyril Finn, the Ansata leader, is a powerful character. Richard Cox managed to make him hugely sympathetic. Doesn't everybody feel a twinge when he hands Beverly the sketch pad?

I also thought the head of Rutian security, Alexana Devos, was a sympathetic character. Kerrie Keane did a very nice job.http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Alexana_Devos

One of my favorite TNG episodes, without a doubt!

Never heard "Bee's knees" before. Lol.

QFT

The episode did a very good job of showing that neither side held the high ground. I liked how the Ansata viewed Riker's actions as the Federation helping the Rutians, and not as an attempt to negotiate Crusher's release.

A top episode of the series.

Who agrees with Finn, in that the Federation added a seat to the negotiation table and Finn forced them to sit in it?

I've always thought the action that happens on the bridge where Picard ends up slugging the leader of the terrorists/freedom fighters was pretty cool. One of TNG's best action scenes.

I like the scenes where the Ansanta beam aboard the Enterprise. It has shock value. Suddenly they're in the game, where before they were going to the planet but their own ship was safe, or "neutral".

It's been a long time since I've seen this episode, I'll have to give it a look again. I think it's a bit sad the BBC refused to broadcast it.

It mentioned the Irish situation being resolved through terrorism...hardly the message anyone wanted to hear at that time...

I hadn't realised it was resolved through terrorism (forgive me, it's been years since I've seen the episode). I was under the impression the mere fact that Ireland had become united was the reason it was cut.

One stupid moment though: when Finn and Picard are wrestling on the bridge and Worf gets shot, Troi runs past the two fighting men to join the crowd around Worf.

Would have it been hard to kick Finn in the head on your way by?

The only issue with this episode is the ending -- which is just too neat and tidy and "Hollywood" to really drive home the ultimate thematic points raised by the story.

Otherwise it's a fantastic, gripping episode.

I loved this one and it came in a string of really eps. starting with Booby Trap and ending with Sarek, this turned out IMO to be one their better seasons.
