The Hidden Kira-Bashir Relationship

Bad Thoughts

Vice Admiral

I know I've rewatched DS9 too many times: either I am noticing things that are very subtle, or I am imagining things that aren't really there. In this case, I keep seeing parts of the script where the real life romance between Visitor and Siddig was referenced into the script--or more exactly, where an awareness of their romance adds depth to their interaction. Of course, there is the scene in which they make out in Infatuation--eerily not sexy. At the beginning of In The Cards, they look like a bickering, old couple. Bashir also checks up on Kira's relationships on a number of occasions, like when she carries the O'Brien's kid or the night after Kira's date with MU Bareil, even betraying some jealousy. If that was the case, it does add a little fun to the scripts after repeated viewing.

Funny, that Kira couldn´t stand Bashir from the first season. When did Siddig/Visitor become involved? Later Kiras relation to Bashir relaxes noticeably.

I liked Kira becoming a surrogate mother for Kirayoshi. On the other hand, did she have a choice? She saved the life of a child. I liked seeing Kira in another role than just the resistance fighter.

I believe that Crossover and Defiant were the nadir of their friendship. Certainly, things improve between them. However, I can think of few episodes in which they are actively working together. We get these scenes in which they inquire about their relationshis.

She reacted SO well to Bashir's soliloquy about the joys of "frontier medicine" in the pilot

That was the thing about Bashir at first, EVERYONE hated him but Dax, who was having fun with his liking her.

I think it was Chief O'Brien who was most vocal about hating him. then they slowly came to an understanding then the joined at the hip friendship.

and I LOVED the exchange between Kira and Bashir, about it being his fault lol

In retrospect, the first season would be about Bashir fighting his irresistible nature by putting on a rather desperate obnoxiousness act - lest Kira, Dax or somebody else of the female persuasion fall head over heels for him, become closely involved, and discover his dark secret. It's just that Dax wasn't falling for it...

There's a little nod to it in the episode where Kira actually becomes not-the-mom, when she tells Bashir, "This is all your fault".

"My fault?"
"You put it in here!!"

That was genius. :D

This one had me laughing so hard it hurt my sides.
Me too! I wonder if they did that in one take?

It's fun sometimes when the real world encroaches on our shows.

I have to admit, a Kira/Bashir pairing could've been fun.

I think that Bashir would have been trying to hide his secret a little, but I still think that part of it was his excitement, there was definitely intelligence there, but he could still be awkward towards the other sex. I still enjoyed seeing O'Brien doing everything he could to avoid working with him
