Roberto Clemente would have turned 76 this month -- 38 years ago he died (while helping others) at the age of 38.

In a time currently where athletes are more concerned with padding their checkbooks and their egos, it's refreshing to remember people like Clemente, who was willing to use his fame to help other people through their struggles.

Roberto Clemente #21 was a real hero here in western PA. I remember that our church and Sunday school had a big fund raiser for the earthquake victims, and donated the money in his name. I still have a thank you note from his wife (Vera?) to those of us involved with raising the money.
