The Gorns!

ENT was a huge disappointment to me. I had hoped it would be stylized like the cage, sort of a retro 60s vibe which would have been very cool. As it was I wrote it off after watching the first season and not liking anything about it.

In my own tiny little mind, TOS is star trek. Add TAS and some movie bits and I'm good. The rest are just some off shoots that don't really interest me. (DS9? Yawn)

So .. Biased response.... I had to look up the ENT gorn just to see it... Can't compete with the classic.
Talk like that could get you into real trouble around here. Trust me, I know.

I like some other Treks but TOS is for me the one that counts!
ENT I watched I have to admit but could not really believe that it came before Kirk's time! I found it very boring also to set a whole series in one storyline (Xindi)! My wife always claimed that Archer was Henry Winkler (The Fonz) as she has trouble with faces! LoL

I suspect most-people on BBS in general are more oriented towards Berman-era. Has there ever been a poll? All I ever watch now is TOS, though I did watch through VOY and DS9. I like VOY from afar, due to its fun and reminding me most of TOS, I suppose.

Are they? Oh well, to each their own. I can't say that berman's era hold up. And JJ just leaves me cold. Sorry. I'm old school. I like my scotch as a single malt and I don't do hipster. If folks love the other stuff, more power to them. It just ain't my cuppa

Star Fleet Battles features the Gorn prominently! It's one of the things I like about it - it is perpetually in TOS era and just runs with everything they came up during the 60's and 70's.

Given they had two Gorn suits (as evidenced by a photo from Justman's office in Inside Star Trek as I recall) I was always surprised that, cash strapped as they were, that they never wrote another episode featuring them.

Maybe the suits were beat up by the action scenes in "Arena" and it would have cost too much to fix them. Or more likely, they just never got around to thinking up another story.

The Gorn show up in a good novel called First Frontier by Carey and Kirkland.

You know, I have to believe "Arena" was lifted directly from the science fiction story of the same name by Frederic Brown, yet I don't think he's listed anywhere in the credits for the episode.

Well, I don't. The similarities are really coincidental.

In Star Fleet Battles, the Federation and Gorns are strong allies, the only allies that are based on mutual cooperation rather than military necessity. And they're ships are really cool, not the little junky one that Paramount included with "official" materials.

I velieve the original author was contacted before filming actually began so they made a point of covering their backsides.
