The Good News Thread

I finally managed to make the f@#^ing wooden heart necklace I've been trying to make for the past two weeks. After using up about two rolls of teeny-tiny Dremel-sized sand paper and several scraps of pine, that is.

No, it's okay. Just don't start a Thread about it or put a link in your sig. Some of us like to support the creative projects of fellow posters, so it's good to know these things.

The book is Told You So published by Pill Hill Press (they do tons of anthologies). They sent me the galley proof last week and I was so happy to find my story was placed first in the book. I opted for a super simple title for my contribution: The Tree. It goes to the printers on August 5. :)
Nice. It's not showing up on Amazon yet, so keep us posted.

My wife and I booked a one week hoilday to Cuba to celebrate my 40th birthday!

My daughet went pee and poop on the potty for the first time last night. Big event in our household!

The new med my doctor put me on has increased my dangerously low HDL "Good" cholesterol levels to above-average! YEEEAAAAA!!!

Well, I got my 401K loan check in the mail today, so I'm happy. :D It should last me a few months ...

Hooray for influxes of cash!

I love the feeling when you work your ass off on a project (that may not always go smoothly) and finally finish it. It always makes me think of the trigonometry teacher I had in high school, who would say, "Mathematics is a mountaintop experience. It's a tough slog to get to the summit, but once you're up there, the view is damned amazing." Words to live by, Mrs. Graham!

Okay, thanks for the heads-up. Never been in a position before to really have to worry about. I'll be crowing about it on Facebook and my blog when the time comes. I really need to do a new blog post. It's been a couple months I think.

I love all these planned vacations! But for the second one, Seeker, now THAT may be the best news in the thread!

More good health news, I love it!

I am losing so much weight from sweating due to the summer heat, and it's nice to get results with little effort put forth. I will also be drinking at tomorrow's meet, which will incidentally increase the diuretic effect. Time for water!

New job working as a prosecution solicitor, specialising in sexual offences. It's actually a paycut for more work compared to my current role, but it's far more of a challenge and an opportunity to make a real difference.

I start in a week and look forward to it.

The only problem is that I'm involved in the highest-profile trial in my state at the moment, and I'm really hoping I get to see the end of it. It'll feel quite weird to return to the standard almost-empty courtrooms, after having this one packed with media, family and random onlookers.

Planning on having a great day with some friends. I get to see my goddaughter for the first time in 5 months!

Seeing "Guys an Dolls" today in Dallas. One of my favorite shows and I get to introduce the daughter to it as well.

I'm officiating a wedding today as a non-denominational Interfaith minister flying under the Unitarian Universalist banner. :D

I'm a little nervous, as this will be my first wedding. I've officiated baptismals, handfastings, dedications, affirmations, and all sorts of smaller services, but a wedding? I don't even own a suit! I'll be wearing black slacks, a gray dress shirt and a black tie, and shiny black shoes. I'm hoping everything will work out okay (they know I don't own a suit).

I mean, I've spoken in front of large crowds before, but I want this wedding to go smoothly. I don't want to be the one to mess up the Bride's big day. So I'm a little nervous, but excited, and it's 12 hours until the ceremony! Part of me can't wait, though. I get to bring two people together in matrimony. The rest of their lives together will start with me! That's a big responsibility!

Yay for positive self images!

There's something deeply satisfying about doing work that has an impact on things that are really important. It sounds like you're making a personal sacrifice ($) for just that feeling, so kudos to you!

I might get to go to Disneyland in November.

You'll love California!

Time with friends and family are never to be undervalued.

Spread your passion! (when I have kids they will love baseball if I have any say in the matter!)

Agreed with ancientone, I bet you were great, J. Let us know how it went!

From weighing nearly 300 pounds not that long ago, I’ve come down to about 210.

Give me another six months and I’ll disappear altogether.

The authorities dropped the charges against me!
Fortunately the goat was over 16 years of age!

Seriously, it sounds like the cop was being a total asshole. A little civility in dealing with the public works wonders, especially if you’re actually trying to help the police do their job.

I actually live in California. But haven't ever been passed Sacramento or farther north than Mt. Shasta, so Southern California will be the adventure. :)

About 6 months ago I wrote a grant proposal (177 pages!) to the VA for the agency where I work. We serve homeless veterans in Northern California.

Anyway, yesterday it was announced that it was funded. $965,000 a year.
