The Good News Thread

I want to know what good things have happened to you recently, or are happening right now. There's so much griping and bad crap out there...let's get some good feelings flowing for once!

I'm having a pretty great summer...I have a novelette being printed in an anthology, my family arrives tomorrow from Philly for my engagement party this weekend, and I got a nice pay raise today.

I'm sure others have good things happening in their lives--please share! :)

That's awesome, dude! I hope we get to see a few pics from the party! What's the novelette about?

You've reminded me to charge my camera battery, Kestra, thanks! I want to have my camera on me, but I don't think my sherwani has any pockets.

It's a conspiracy story about a guy who discovers a very unnatural tree on a mountain near his family home, and his attempts to figure out what it is lead him to come to a paranoia-influenced decision. When the publisher sent me the proof to edit I found out my story was positioned first in the book. So cool! Won't be long before I force everyone I know to buy it. :p

So sad to see no contributions of good news! I fear my good news thread will turn depressing. I don't care if someone only found a quarter on the sidewalk, please share!

I just finished booking tickets for a Cape Cod vacation with the family. It was supposed to be the Vineyard, but that didn't work out for a variety of reasons.

I am a 41-year-old man who just passed a physical with flying colors. :)

Something never to be undervalued!

Ooh, Cape Cod is nice! A proper vacation is a great thing!

I'm the Iguana. That's all the good news I need. :)

Indeed. You are coolness in pebbly/leathery skin.

The authorities dropped the charges against me!

Yay! :shifty:

We no longer have a crippling heat wave.

Happy that yours broke! I think your (slightly) cooler temps are headed this way next.

^ Our heat wave just hit New York. Hopefully it will be gone from there by the time I get to the city which will be the end of next week.

Speaking of Toronto, I hear it got so hot up there that they closed the roof at Rogers Centre (for a Blue Jays game) even though it wasn't raining...

You can't leave us hanging like that! Details!

I took a picture of a hit and run driver's license plate. I told the cop and he attempted to take my camera as evidence, despite the fact that i was rewinding the film and that i told him that he would get it. I objected. In the end he pissed me off and i removed the film from the camera, effectively destroying it by exposing it to direct sunlight. On a side note, the idiot nearly gave me whiplash with the way he ripped the camera from me. I'm never wearing a neck strap again...

Obstruction of justice, destruction of evidence and the even tried to toss in an aiding and abetting charge.

All this after me and another guy probably saved the victims life. Bloody jerks... Badge or no badge, i'm not taking crap like this. In the end, they caught the driver anyway because I still remembered the plate number.

You heard correctly. Right now it is 37C/98.6F. Human body temp!

Wow! Why do some police officers act in ways that make it so hard to respect them? Good on you, though, for still helping to nab the bad guy!

^ yeah, well just because the cop was a jerk doesn't mean i want the prick to get away with what i later found out was attempted vehicular manslaughter, or whatever the equivalent is. especially after i spent fifteen minutes patching the victim up. besides, in my book, as a amateur racecar driver, drunk drivers are the scum of the roads.

Well, the best thing that happened in this hectic week was that a customer called in to my boss about me-- to say how great I am. :D

Congratulations. More info, please-- title, publication date, et cetera. :mallory:

Sometimes they put one on the inside, like a suit.

Hmm. I didn't notice one, but I'll check again.

Just booked tickets for a cruise to Nassau.

Cool! Nassau looks beautiful from the pictures I've seen. I'll get to a nice island resort some day. :)

Good comments about you from outside your workplace to your supervisor...always a great thing, I love those!

Does giving that information come under the No Soliciting rule in the board's terms of service? If it does, go ahead and edit my post, and I'll do PMs instead.

The book is Told You So published by Pill Hill Press (they do tons of anthologies). They sent me the galley proof last week and I was so happy to find my story was placed first in the book. I opted for a super simple title for my contribution: The Tree. It goes to the printers on August 5. :)
