The Games of October '08

I'll be getting:

Disaster: Day of Crisis
Left4Dead
Fable 2
Fallout 3

Might get:

Dead Space
Gears of War 2
Mirror's Edge

FYI, next week (Oct. 12-18) at Toys R Us is buy 2, get 1 free on video games.

Hmm.. that beats my 10% off each game and $15.00 off $100.00 deal At Circuit City.

Problem is The third game I'd get doesn't come out till the following week.

I suppose I could pick up Silent Hill as my freebie but I really wanted to wait on that one.

The other problem is the only TRU close to me closed about 6 months ago which was really strange.
Whenever I went by the parking lot was always full.

When it's down to $20 or so I will definitely check out Fable 2 and Dead Space, so I'll catch up with the rest of you in a year or two! :p

You don't have to wait that long - games without Multiplayer (Dead Space) typically don't see anywhere near the price stability as do games with greater replayability - hence why you can already probably find $20 copies of The Force Unleashed on Ebay :p

Fallout 3 is the only must own for me this month. Little Big Planet looks interesting, so I'll probably pick that up, too. I'll wait on reviews of Fable II. I'm sure it'll be a good game, but I want to see if it's worth $60 first. I've watched the Molyneux hype cycle a few too many times to be particularly excited about it yet.

I plan to get Far Cry 2 next year for PC but really my next game won't be till 2009 and thats Aliens Colonial Marines and Flashpoint 2 (double dip for OP 2) mainly for CO-OP reasons.

This is going to be an expensive month for me:
Fable II
Fallout 3
Dead Space
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (Strangely absent from the OP's list)

Yeah, sorry 'bout that. If it makes you feel any better, I missed Far Cry 2 and Dead Space off the list at first :D. I'll be more accurate next month (assuming anyone finds this thread even remotely interesting) and when I'm not doing it at midnight ;)

I get depressed about gaming whenever I think of the next three months. In the past two weeks I've picked up Wipeout HD, Burnout Paradise and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, then I got thrust into beta's for SOCOM Confrontation and LittleBigPlanet (the latter ate up a ludicrous amount of time over the weekend).

Dead Space: EA's become almost unrecognisable, they're now my favorite non-platform specific publisher. I'll be getting this when it comes out, despite the fact I might be too much of a wuss to finish it.

Bioshock: Played the PC demo (as a slideshow) over a year ago, played the PS3 demo last week and loved it... till the combat started. Still, I'll most likely pick it up for the story and aesthetic.

LittleBigPlanet: LOOK WHAT I MADE IN THE BETA! Can't come out soon enough.

Fallout 3: Loved Oblivion, this looks ace, come to papa.

Star Ocean: First Departure: Looks chahmin', and I want a nice RPG for my PSP.

Far Cry 2: might have to wait a while

Mirror's Edge: Definitely interested, a demo will be needed to push me over the edge though.

Wish I could get: Fable 2, Gears 2, Left4Dead.

I totally forgot about Castlevania Order of Ecclesia. It's a day 1 game for me. Right now I'm replaying SotN to get ready for it.

I actually have SotN on my PSP at the moment, I really hope Konami consider an HD Castlevania for PSN/XBLA. You've got to think they're looking at the success of MegaMan 9 and Bionic Commando with envoius eyes.

I have Little Big Planet and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift pre-ordered. I will probably also pick up Fallout 3 and C&C: Red Alert 3 for the PC.

So what's the skinny on Saints Row 2, Dead Space, Golden Axe: Beast Rider and SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Confrontation? They all come out the week of the Toys R Us sale.

Also, what the hell is Rock Revolution?

Hmmm... just read this on another site.

A bit sneaky but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

"How to properly buy Placeholder games
I cannot guarantee this will work at all Toys R Us stores, some management might be against the idea, use at your own risk.

If a game you really want is coming out after the sale ends, but you don't want to risk missing out on something on the shelves right now, the step by step here is what you do. Remember, the return policy is set at 45 days from purchase.

1. Pick the two games that you want.

2. Pick up a game that has the same price point as the game coming out, and the same price point as the two games you picked up. Example, if the game you want is $60, buy three $60 games during the week.

3. Make sure that every third game rung up, the free one, is NOT the placeholder game, but one you want to keep. DO NOT LOSE THE RECEIPT!

4. When the game you want comes in, bring the receipt and the placeholder game to the customer service desk, and tell them that you want to exchange the game for something else. Make sure you make specific that you want to keep the one or two games, and that you want one or two different games instead. MAKE SURE THE GAME YOU WANT TO RETURN IS NOT OPENED.

5. If everything is in order, the exchange will be finished and enjoy your new game!

The 45 days will take you into the first week of December, so plan accordingly."
