Disaster: Day of Crisis
MonolithSoft/Nintendo | Wii | EU/AU/UK: 24/10

Better late than never, Monolith's interactive take on the one-damn-thing-after-another action movie formula arrives with enough earthquakes, tidal waves and grizzly bears to save you a fortune in cheesy Hollywood disaster flicks. Will waggle save the day? Probably not, but it looks like a blast anyhow.

How do you resurrect a franchise that died 20 years ago? You take out a core element of the gameplay and make everyone play as a chick in bondage gear who rides around on these big ugly things.

It has FMV with hot chicks who can't act, and it's not porn. Or Night Trap.

Shades of Bioshock and...some majorly scary shit. Play with the light on and teddy on your lap.

Malaria is not cool, except in Far Cry 2 where you're kinda stuck with it. Don't try this at home.

Capitalising things is cool, as Toshihiro Nagoshi discovered when using the proprietary CANVAS engine (thanks SEGA) to create the lovely aesthetic of this rather bizarre SRPG...thing.

Command and Conquer: Tiberium (the C&C3-era based FPS) has been cancelled. Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 was never at risk.

This 4th quarter absolutely stinks for my gaming tastes. Therefore, I will buy no video games and play The Wind Waker again.

I'll be picking up Disaster, Dead Space, Far Cry 2, and Rock Band 2 eventually.
