If you think about The Game, you lose it. And you have to say you lost it.
Say, for instance, you're standing in line at a grocery store, and you think of the game. You are supposed to say, aloud, 'I lost.'
And then you watch some guy who knows what you're talking about two spots ahead glare at you and curse under his breath.

As I have a feeling very few, if any, people would have any idea what I was talking about, I refuse to play.

I lost, and I'm not happy about it! 
This reminds me of an old Manly Wade Wellman story about his character John the Balladeer. More of a vignette, really. I think it was called "The Blue Monkey." It concerned a method of turning rocks into gold, which involved several steps, the last of which was to "not think of a red monkey." Of course, as soon as you try to not think of a red monkey, you're thinking of a red monkey, so it's impossible to turn rocks into gold. But John, in his wise way, moved on to another town and told somebody the method, but said that the last step was to "not think of a blue monkey." Of course, the guy succeeded in turning the rock into gold.

One of my daughter's 11-year-old friends just told us about The Game last week. I hadn't thought about it since, damn ya.

It just occurred to me: we say threads are Full of Fail all the time, but this one literally is. Everytime any of us see this thread and think to check it, we lose The Game.
