The Future is not yet written, but can it be saved?

Greetings fellow "trekkies"

I am a life long fan. Love all Trek, I apologize in advance but I have not watched all of TOS. It was quiet before my time and felt dated. I will eventually watch it. I grew up on TNG, Voyager and DS9. On second viewing in it's entirety I really enjoyed Enterprise. Not a big fan of STD. Watch it more out of curiosity. What do all those aforementioned "classic" / prime universe series have in common? NO KURTZMAN AND NO KELVIN UNIVERSE. It breaks my heart that Kurtzman is now the Fiege of Star Trek, because unlike Fiege Kurtzman isn't a fan.

Out of the two that were involved in the reboot, Orci, not Kurtzman was the fan. They made the wrong choice. I would love to see Michael Dorn get his Capt. Worf Chronicles series, it has fan fav characters, and will finally explore a more interesting and story rich era in Trek.

I read earlier that the whole tartigrade idea is actually taken from another show, this doesn't surprise me and just serves as further proof that we need to go back to what most fans love. Prime universe and follow the timeline as it was unfolding, what happened when Voyager got home, all the advancements future Janeway gave herself that she brought back could serve as a way for the next show to explore the Delta quadrant further. Anyway, hopefully, with the rights set to revert back away from Bad Robot hopefully we will be done with this Kelvin time line and the whole unnecessary exploration of pre Kirk era, we have far more interesting options available to us.

Discovery and the Picard Show are not set in the Kelvin Timeline.

There's a new show coming in early 2020 starring Jean-Luc Picard next year, set in 2399.

But if you miss 90's Berman-Trek, I suggest you find and watch The Orville, which is more 90's-style Trek with the serial numbers filed off and some crude humour added. It really is like watching Next Gen or Voyager again.

Since when is Kurtzman not a fan? I thought it was Abrams who fell in the "not a fan catagory" with Orci as as a "die hard fan" and Kurtzman somewhere in the middle.

Seriously man, get over it. 90's trek isn't coming back. I remember the absolute hate that Voyager and Enterprise received from the fan base. I remember people saying that Enterprise was killing the franchise. People hated it so much that they stopped watching and it became the first trek series in nearly 40 years to be cancelled. How quickly people forget.

Also nothing could be worse than a Captain Worf series. Worf was played out in Deep Space Nine, and lets be honest Dorn is a terrible actor.

Is Discovery perfect? Far from it. But it's light years ahead of the shit ideas 'most of the fanbase' want.

Stuff you read on the internet that isn't true isn't "proof" of anything.
There is a (frankly dubious) claim being litigated currently that the Tardigrade idea is a lift from an unreleased Indy game. That's it.

What do all those aforementioned "classic" / prime universe series have in common? NO KURTZMAN AND NO KELVIN UNIVERSE.

There's loads of things they collectively "don't" have - you'll get a lot closer to capturing what it is you like by focusing on what they do have.

Perhaps, you might get what you wish for with the other Trek series that are being produced. I don't know what is the future of the Trek franchise, but you can always hope.

I don't think you get to be the gatekeeper of real Star Trek if you haven't bothered to watch the original series.

But it's easy to see how someone who is not a hardcore fan of Star Trek (or be definition, frequent TrekBBS participant) can easily make this error.

Would love an Alex Garland Star Trek movie. Maybe away from TOS/TNG/VOY era. New cast, new direction. Garland does intellectual sci fi thrillers so well. He is top of my wishlist for a ST movie.

For the future of Trek to be saved Paramount needs to take a play from the Marvel handbook and get an emerging Director.

I love that the franchise has continued to evolve, and I like Kurtzman a lot. He says all the right things, fired two abusive show-runners, and genuinely cares about Star Trek.

Just because the elements he loves and cares about are different than yours doesn't make him Public Trek Enemy #1. Trek is a damn diverse property that appeals to lots of different people for lots of different reasons.

Nick Meyer wasn't a fan, and had a very different vision and concept for Star Trek too, and his stuff turned out pretty ok.

I'm thrilled with Star Trek right now.

As much as it hurts to say it, Roddenberrys vision isn’t the only one important to Star Trek. What Trek is today is the end result of a very long collaborative process that began when he first decided to bring other people in on this idea he had for a TV show.
