The Force Unleashed - Ultimate Sith Edition

Well, live and learn.

Next Star Wars game that looks interesting, don't buy it until the "ultimate whatever edition" comes out.

Assuming there ever is another interesting Star Wars game. They seem to be completely ignoring their over seven years old audience lately.

This special edition is also the release of the PC and Mac versions of the game. So I'm not getting screwed, because I don't have a console, and this'll be the first and only version I can get.

Same. Might look into it depending on its price.

Well, I never bought it in the first place because of the generally poor reviews, so the new content may finally tempt me, depending on the price.

Now I'm glad I decided to wait until the first version dropped in price and then forgot all about it. Let's see if they release a super duper separatist edition before I remember to get this one.

Yeah, I was referring primarily to the Star Destroyer level. While the game had other flaws, I found the rest of it to be mostly enjoyable.

Enjoyable, sure, but it was really nothing special. I certainly didn't finish playing and go, "That game was awesome!"

It was okay, but not great. Certainly not good enough for me to spend more money on it.

Agreed. I can't believe they've made it so that people would have to purchase the game a second time to get one of the DLC packs.

Well, actually I can believe it, but you know what I mean.

One question from a PS2 player that just finished the game, but on a fanboy level. Galen/Starkiller is a freakin' Sith nuke. Luke on Hoth had trouble pulling his lightsaber to him. Maybe, maybe Post-Dagobah Luke might present a challenge to this guy, but on Hoth, he was a Force toddler at best.

I might also ask, how about a better-than-canon set of 'Infinities'? As in, he lives (doesn't kill Palps but kicks him in the head to knock him out so everyone escapes) and then is tasked with things like escorting Leia to Tatooine? I have an odd opinion of better-than-canon What If's. I feel they're sadder than bitter/dark ones, because they show us how things could have gone better, but obviously did not.

Galen had been instructed in the ways of the Force since he was a toddler; Luke had only been learning for three years, and most of that time he spent learning on his own while also fighting for the Alliance. Luke, once he had learned more and achieved better control over the Force, probably would have been more than a match for Galen, since Luke was just as powerful as his father.

Granted. But again, Luke on Hoth was not even really a true Force user as yet, let alone a Jedi or Jedi trainee. I know the game will compensate, but IMO, it goes past even a willing suspension of disbelief.

I discussed in another thread how I recently picked up the original version of this game for $7.48 at Target (I assume they were clearing out the backlog to make way for new "ultimate" version).

I'm a few hours in and so far it's ... meh.

The graphics are gorgeous and the story is actually pretty interesting. But the gameplay isn't really anything new - it's basically God of War-type hack-and-slash button mashing with the typical SW "Force Powers." And I've already some across several glitches that made me restart levels after getting stuck. Of course, it also doesn't allow game sames during mission (an all-too-common problem in console games, but one most smart developers caught onto long ago). I haven't even gotten to the infamous Star Destroyer level yet and I'm already annoyed with the game.

But the most maddening this is the incredible overuse of quick time events. Every single major fight ends in a QTE. Which is just stupid - there's no skill or strategy involved in any way, it's just acting like a trained chimp pushing the button that lights up on the screen. And you're so intent on watching for the QTE that you can't pay attention to the cutscene, which is stupid because the cutscenes are the only really interesting part of the game.

Basically it plays like they put all their money and time into the story and art direction, and gameplay itself was an afterthought.

For $7.48 it was probably a worthwhile purchase. I doubt I'd shell out any more than that, however, and I most certainly wouldn't pay for any DLC or extra content in an "ultimate" edition.

The last really good Star Wars game I played was KOTOR. Now that game rocked.
