I do recall when they showed off his abbs in the pilot and never again. Unlike the Green Arrow where he always seems to to be taken his shirt off or doing that exercise thing with the bar where you lift it up in the air one notch.

I'm so glad they're finally ditching leather.
It would be nice if we got a little diversity in materials for the other costumed heroes in the Arrowverse too...

Agreed. Hopefully that will happen since part of the reason for the costume change is to make it more comfortable for Grant Gustin to wear.

I was also thinking that besides comfort they proably felt that it would also help him emote better in scenes were he is wearing the mask. I guess a chin being covered isn't the same as having your eyes covered like LeVar Burton did on TNG but I wonder if also impacts the amount of emotions you can display.

I like the mask the way it is. Not only is it a really good design, but I think it allows plenty of expressiveness. I wish he'd leave it on more.

It looks weird to me without the chin strap. It makes the rest of the cowl look bulgier by comparison, giving his head proportions that remind me of David McCallum in The Outer Limits: "The Sixth Finger."

Apparently they thought he is to skinny to be the Flash. I'm just wondering why it took them 4 years to suddenly come to this epiphany.

I guess the past suits were a little more baggy

I think he’s just getting the same criticism Avengers captain america got with his 2012 costume. No neck piece gives the suit a skinny illusion

I figure it's meant to be protective headgear, so it needs to be fairly sturdy. Although that's hard to reconcile with how it looks more like a fabric hood when it's folded back (though of course that's an entirely different costume piece in real life, which you can tell by the way the camera always cuts away while he's donning or removing his cowl).

I think it's just that Gustin wanted a more comfortable costume that would allow more facial expression.

I was joking on facebook saying I wish Gustin would grow a beard now, now that his chin is free from the strap. It probably wouldn't go over too well with the comic book fans though, but it would be a sight to behold.

Can the Flash grow a beard very fast? That would certainly help with his secret identity (growing a beard and shaving it between costume shifts), though I'm not sure if the superhero or the regular identity should get the beard.
