The fixed 'broken shots' of TOS-R

I liked the physical model they used in the 60's, it's colouring and texturing gave it a real depth and toughness - it felt old, but horribly destructive. I also liked the simplistic and robotic way it moved, like it treated space as a three dimensional grid.

And it's remarkable how well the original planet-killer model worked, because when you take a good close look at it, you realize it's basically a roughly carved wooden cone wrapped in clear adhesive tape or plastic sheeting. It's an amazingly crude construction that turned out to be amazingly effective. I can't see it working too well in HD, though.

I always thought it looked like papier-mache, but I defer to your expertise.

Well, maybe. But the exterior layer is definitely strips of clear plastic wrapped around the cone and somewhat crinkled.

The funny thing about that "Metron shimmer effect" was that it wasn't an intentional effect at all, just the result of sunlight reflecting off that shiny costume into the camera lens.
Anybody else but me think that Metron was more like Metrosexual? I'm just sayin'

Once again roddenberry had a 'male' character played by a female ala' the talosians.

Obscure trivia.......

the lady who played the Metron later had a small part on TNG as an engineer.
