The First Trailer

My problem is turning Trek into strictly a spectacle franchise. That's how this trailer feels to me.

I have a tough time making that determination based on 84 seconds of snippets put in front of The Force Awakens.

Though I'm okay with spectacle movies, There is room in the universe for lots of different types of Star Trek.

Yeah. Not every movie needs to be the second coming of Shakespeare.

You do know that Shakespeare was popular entertainment for the masses, yeah? And that there are more options for pop culture than just show deathly dull talkathon or X-TREEM MAXIMUM ADRENALINE GO GO GO, right?

I hate that the middle has been hollowed out of movies as of late, and I hate even more watching fans act as de facto PR arms for the studios, greedily chowing down on whatever extreme stupidity gets vomited up and shouting down anyone who dares be unhappy with any aspect of it.

I was waiting for the Crazy 88's from Kill Bill to do a cameo.

Star Wars NEVER destroys the Millenium Falcon. Yet the Federation ratepayer has to foot the bill for a new ENTERPRISE almost every time Jimmy Kirk takes her out.

I liked it! Probably will have a lot more humor in it than STID. Works for me, I hope we see more of Keenser!

Picard destroys one Enterprise, and it suffers quite a bit of damage in the other three films.

So it's running 2-to-1 for? 66% of the people like the trailer? Seems like a success to me.

That's actually pretty horrible for a youtube ratio.

BvS is 13-to-1
SW:TFA is 38-to-1

It has been out for less than twelve hours. Let's see how the numbers do after months of people looking at it.

I seem to remember that Batman vs. Superman's first trailer didn't fair too well early on.

I know why Paramount has turned Star Trek into hot garbage.

They want the kind of gate that Transormers: Age of Mind-Numbing Writing Hackery got. Now that the Paranoids have been shown the door, they're going to make an action popcorn flick.

The only thing that's missing is Jackie Chan.

Paramount wants Trek to make money. Period.

Oh, must have missed the movie where Picard destroys the Enterprise. Which one was that?

Kirk got the A shot out from under him in III, iirc.

The ship was under his command when destroyed in Generations. But I tend to think you knew what I was getting at.

I'd expect it to trend move favorable over time, there are only 169k views, versus 7 million for BvS#3, right now I'd bet the majority of votes are from Trekkies, who pretty much hate everything, lol

I was just watching some trailer reaction videos (interesting endeavor in itself) for ST Beyond, and a lot of people are saying the trailer is great but it doesn't look like Star Trek...by this I read: "Doesn't look like a cheap, underfunded, afterthought franchise". So far, success.

The D gets destroyed in Generations and the E takes some major hits FC and Nemesis. The refit gets the crap kicked out of it in TWOK and goes down in flames in TSFS.

TMP - Enterprise is fine. Jim Kirk commanding. Villain - Ancient 20th century probe.
TWOK - Enterprise is beaten up and sustains many casualties. Jim Kirk commanding. Villain - Ancient 20th century genetically enhanced tyrant.
TSFS - Enterprise is destroyed by its commander. Jim Kirk commanding. Villain - Rogue Klingon captain.
TVH - Enterprise is brand new (and only in the movie for about 60 seconds.) Jim Kirk commanding. Villain - Um... global warming?
TFF - Enterprise is beaten up a little. Jim Kirk commanding. Villain - Rogue Klingon captain.
TUC - Enterprise is beaten up a lot and gets a nice big hole in its saucer. Jim Kirk commanding. Villain - Rogue Klingon General.
GEN - Enterprise is destroyed. Will Riker commanding. Villain - Rogue Klingon sisters (flying an old spaceship).
FC - Enterprise is damaged, loses a deflector dish and many of its crew are assimilated. Jean-Luc Picard commanding. Villain - the Borg.
INS - Enterprise is beat up and loses a warp core. Will Riker commanding. Villain - a bunch of former hippies turned plastic surgery addicts.
NEM - Enterprise is beaten up really badly with many casualties. Jean-Luc Picard commanding. Villain - Jean-Luc Picard('s clone).
ST09 - Enterprise is beaten up a little and loses a warp core. Jim Kirk commanding. Villain - A Romulan from 130 some years in the future.
STID - Enterprise almost crashes. Jim Kirk/Spock commanding. Villain - A rogue Starfleet Admiral.
STB - (It appears that) Enterprise is destroyed. Jim Kirk commanding. Villain - a bunch of effing ships that do kamikazes on the old girl.

...I hate even more watching fans act as de facto PR arms for the studios, greedily chowing down on whatever extreme stupidity gets vomited up and shouting down anyone who dares be unhappy with any aspect of it.
That's a good example of what's symptomatic about the story of Disney's Defenders of Mediocrity where the defense of a product by uber loyal fans actually results in the lowering of standards because the company is made to believe everyone is happy with their objectively substandard product. But is the quality actually lower in this case because fans seem happy to defend anything Paramount releases in the name of Star Trek? We probably need to see the film first to make that determination.

Could it be possible that the people defending the product, actually like the product?

Just getting tired of the elitist bullshit. I'm tired of hearing lowest common denominator/defenders of mediocrity nonsense over a fucking movie.

There are two sounds of teleportation in the trailer. Spock and Kirk. The first sound is the old Enterprise and the second is the new Enterprise. This makes me wonder if we will have a journey through time or is there an old ship off reminiscent of the Enterprise - TOS.
Why are they hearing an old song of the earth? Why does Sofia tell Kirk that she knows the reason they're there?
