Probably warrants it's own thread:

Well, it's looks like I got what I wanted from what was likely to be offered - an action movie with Star Trek flavouring.

Hell, at least it looks like we have actual Engineering set this time, so we got that going for us, which is nice :P

It is damn good to see the crew in new adventures again.
I'm on board & I'm looking forward to the next longer trailer whenever it comes.:bolian:

Well, that's certainly a trailer.

I'm going to go with the idea that the trailer was cut to maximize the Justin Lin/ Fast & Furious connection, but the actual story is Pegg's baby.

Seeing how he's the first character we get a look at...
That's a pretty safe bet.
:techman:

Our fearless crew is cut off from official support and have to run, punch, cliffhang, and motorcycle jump their way to victory over an ominous group of something enslaving somebody. And they do it all while being cheeky and listening to cool rock music.

So it's Mission Impossible: Spaceships. Meh.

Personally STID is in my top 2-3 Trek movies of all time.

This trailer left me wanting. It certainly felt different but not in a way I was particularly warming up to. I LOOOOOOVE The Beastie Boys but I've been conditioned from decades and decades of Trek and I just can't help but feel like it's not Trek unless it's grandiose "EPIC TRAILER MUSIC (C)". Maybe it's the destroying of the Enterprise for the second time in two movies or various shots that hearkened back to Insurrection (to me) but this is the first time in my life that I finished watching a brand new Star Trek trailer and wasn't hyped about the final product.

Well, if that trailer does not get butts in the seat, nothing will. Looks like a fun, kick ass, adventure!

Guardians of the Galaxy 2. I had my problems with the previous movies in the JJ verse but this is not even Star Trek to me. I'm guessing the Enterprise gets blown up at the beginning, they spend too long on the planet and finally become a rag tag crew on the Firefly.

My reaction, "This is Star Trek?"

I think I am seeing what Paramount believes is the course the franchise will be pursuing in the future - a frenetic, moment-to-moment action film. Will CBS follow in its footsteps? We shall see.

A question - if there were not elements of Star Trek in the film, is there anything in the trailer that would differentiate this film from the average action film?

Great Bones/Spock moment... Not minding the callback to the 2009 movie. And there still remains post-production work to do, so this is likely not a completely finished product. I hope Alba gets to shine as an actor under all that makeup and prosthetic.

As something to whet the appetite of the Star Wars going crowd and general public, not too shabby!

I think you could ask that question of most Star Trek movies.
