I've been using Star Trek XI or ST-XI for the sake of simplicity, and since it's the most commonly used name since the first announcement of the film. I don't really understand why people get so riled up about it, it's not like it matters what you call it as long as you communicate your point effectively.
I don't use XI because it's innacurate. It's not a sequel. It's the first in a series. I'd know more call the new movie XI than I'd call Star Trek TOS. The name of the series isn't TOS. It's not a spinoff. It's a standalone that has a buttload of sequels.
I hate the idea of calling it STXI, so I'll call it either ST, ST09, or nuTrek (just to tick off the 'nu' haters).
"ST09" would just be to differentiate it from TOS (and Star Trek in general). I would imagine that the next movie will have an acronym or another nickname based on its subtitle, like every other Trek movie.Plus, if you follow your "ST09" logic, "Star Trek XII" might come out in 2011, so some people would call it ST12 while you call it ST11. That's just going to lead to confusion. Best to stick with the unambiguous Roman numerals.

Wasn't there already a thread about this?
Star Trek is the entire franchise.
ST09 is Insurrection.
ST11 is this new film.
Just because this new film is inconsistent and confusing with what has gone before, doesn't mean we need to be inconsistent and confusing.
