The final decision on the movie's reference title...

Are we pretty much settled on calling it "STXI"?

I've also seen from some sources a version I hadn't considered before, but which interests me- "Star Trek 2009" or just "Star Trek '09".

For our purposes I guess that could become "ST09".

How does either one sit with you?

I'd prefer to just call it ST, but nobody seems to be doing that so it feels odd. Trek XI seems to work, as does STXI.

Thanks to the NBC announcer, there was also Star Trek: The Future.

As to final decision, there isn't one, really, and I don't expect one. Shorthand naming conventions are rarely decided, and are generally arrived at over time when everyone stops using any of the less-popular ones. Some are never firmly decided, for example: DSN/DS9 or VOY/VGR.

STXI and ST09 both seem to be front-runners for this movie, but it's much too early to tell where it'll end up.

I'm using ST09, and intend to keep on using it. I don't think it especially matters that everyone use the same one, though; there are plenty of letters left in the alphabet, and everyone knows what you're talking about in either case.

I guess ST11 makes the best sense, actually, since it avoids ambiguity that could lead to its confusion with Nemesis, and it allows us to call the next one ST12, the one after ST13, and so forth without resorting to needlessly long Roman numerals.

Still, for now, at least, I'm using ST09. We'll see what happens with it.

Hey, I didn't take four years of Latin in high school to use Arabic numerals.

I'm sticking with "Star Trek XI." "Star Trek" is the name of the series, and this is the eleventh movie in the series. Plus, "ST09" makes me think of "Insurrection," the ninth movie.

Plus, if you follow your "ST09" logic, "Star Trek XII" might come out in 2011, so some people would call it ST12 while you call it ST11. That's just going to lead to confusion. Best to stick with the unambiguous Roman numerals.

I hate the idea of calling it STXI, so I'll call it either ST, ST09, or nuTrek (just to tick off the 'nu' haters ).

"ST09" would just be to differentiate it from TOS (and Star Trek in general). I would imagine that the next movie will have an acronym or another nickname based on its subtitle, like every other Trek movie.

This forum should have been renamed Star Trek (2009) months ago. That's what the film is called. Not Star Trek XI.

ST09 has a leading zero in it. Therefore I'm sticking with STXI.

When I talked to friends about going to see the movie I asked them,

"Do you want to go see STAR TREK?"

"Lets go see STAR TREK!"

"Have you seen STAR TREK?"

It seemed to work just fine. They knew of what I spoke of.

Granted they where just TREK laymen.

Now when I speak of Star Trek to other more hardcore Trek fans I normally just say "STAR TREK" with an occasional "Abrahms TREK" or "JJ's TREK" just to clarify.

I personally have sworn off STAR TREK XI and at one time explored the possibility of calling it STAR TREK: The future Begins...but that didnt seem to stick with my fan boy friends.

To me its just Star Trek.... even though I realize the potential for confusing some of my die hard fan boy friends...but it hasnt happened yet.

Good point! I was never a fan of using "ST09" anyway. I would prefer just "ST" or "STXI" but that's just me.
