The films of David Fincher

Fincher's films are just fun to look at. I love the cinematography in The Game. When he falls at the end of the film- it was so well done. Also, his shot selections for the chase scenes and such... he's a real visual master.

Panic Room also has probably the best opening title sequence of all time.

Alien 3 - Still a bewildering disappointment to this day, much like the Matrix sequels.
Se7en - A solid film noir detective thriller. Gets even better with each viewing. Fincher's second best film.
The Game - Michael Douglas and Sean Penn keeping me guessing until the final reel. Good stuff.
Fight Club - Fincher's masterpiece. 'Nuff said.
Panic Room - This one was responsible for unleashing Kristen Stewart upon the world, but Jodie Foster once again proves her worth as a dramatic actress.

I've not seen Zodiac, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, or The Social Network, but Fincher is 4 for 5 thus far in my book.

I still think Se7en is my favourite Fincher film. It just has everything...it's genuinely dark and gritty for thematic purposes, it has something to say, it's terrifying, it's brilliantly made and it's entertaining. Not only that, it has influenced the entire horror and psychological thriller genres. Every film from a few years post Se7en to today bear its influence. An amazing feat. To this day, a true original. Best film noir of the past 15 years.

Fincher, Nolan, Singer, Reitman, Abrams... why are these young, talentless punks getting jobs that should go to Brett Ratner?!?!?!?

Hey, now--be fair. I thought Ratner did a pretty good job with Red Dragon. I actually liked it better than Manhunter, which has aged terribly, IMO.

As for David Fincher--while I enjoy all his films, I still can't shake the impression that he suffers from a mild version of the odd-number curse.

Alien 3--good, but not great
Se7en--great
The Game--good, but not great
Fight Club--great
Panic Room--good, but not great
Zodiac--great
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button--good, but not great
The Social Network--great

As a consequence, while I'm looking forward to his version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, I'm also a little apprehensive.

If you take out Brad Pitt and replace him with someone who can act it's a perfect movie. Pitt's performance really distracts me every time I watch it. Ironically, I like Pitt's performance in Fight Club quite a lot, which is my favorite Fincher movie.

Not a fan of him, though I really did like the Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Didn't even know it was directed by him.
