"The Fight" - Don't most boxers show a lot of skin while they box?

You so beat me to the Gross comment. But regardless, I second that notion. I have no time for Beltran anyways. The guy is a tool in my opinion. His character was awful.
Robert Beltran was willing to be used by corporate media to pick up easy weekly paychecks from UPN and from convention appearances, while allowing Hollywood to exploit his Native American heritage. This sycophant is definitely a "tool" in my book.

To stay on topic though, yes, boxers box topless sometimes, but they also where sweatshirts and sleeveless t's. Havent you ever seen Rocky?
The character of Rocky Balboa may have worn sweats while sparring, but when it came to entering the ring in a boxing match, the man doffed his shirt.

He was so ripped and in shape that he put Mason "The Line" Dixon who has smooth skin with no discernible muscle definition to shame.

This post made my night. Thank you. I mean Mason Dixon, honestly? lol.

Uh, I remember Chakotay being in a T-shirt thingy..not a damn sweater! Sweat shorts, yes, but not a sweater! :D And Beltran wasn't in that good of shape(or so he says..not from where I'm standing though! :D:D:D )

Physical body not as important as actual person. Not everyone so superficial. There more to a person than just looks

True, true.

I'd never win a beauty contest, but Hubby loves me.

And when people ask if I think Hubby is good-looking, I say, "Well the only calendar he'll be asked to pose for is 'Pharmacists You Can Trust'", but to me, he's very good looking.

It is only with the heart that one can see clearly. What is essential is invisible to the eye.

I am sure you are very beautiful :)

You are very sweet for saying so. Thank you.

As for Beltran...personally, I liked his lips and broad shoulders the most. I saw "Night of the Comet" on cable right around the time I met Hubby. I thought he was very nice looking, not realizing he was a substitute for Hubby (whom I thought I hated at the time--a confused love at first sight situation). They looked generally similar back then--tall, dark hair, warm brown eyes, great lips, broad shoulders, Hispanic. Now, Beltran has much more hair than Hubby. They probably weigh about the same, so I can't bitch about Beltran's weight. But Hubby doesn't get paid for his looks.

Wow...it's off topic, but I had no idea Robert Beltran had aged so much!

"On the bright side, I'm not Garrett Wang.
What happened to his hair? He's gone MacGyver-style! ;)

I'd just like to quote The Agony Booth's review of this episode.
Before continuing with the recap, I'd like to stake claim to a new term in the Bad Movie Lexicon: Goose's Law, which states that actors with more, shall we say, normal physiques than the standard Hollywood himbo are allowed to leave their shirts on during sporting activities that are usually played shirtless. This law is named for the famous volleyball scene in Top Gun, where Maverick, Iceman, and Slider get all shirtless and oily—down, boy!—but Goose is (mercifully) allowed to keep his shirt on.

Likewise, in this scene, Chakotay has a T-shirt on, because Robert Beltran didn't have the physique of a boxer. I'm not casting stones here, by the way. But this is Chakotay's holodeck simulation, right? So who's he being modest for, anyway?

The alien also has a wife-beater on, probably so that the makeup department didn't have to start adding and/or removing nipples from Carlos Palomino, the actor playing the role. Carlos, by the way, is actually a boxer of some note: one time welterweight champion of the world, and member of the World Boxing Hall of Fame.

well most boxers are fit. he clearly wasn't and didn't want to show that on tv. kind of ruins the illusion of him being an athlete.

This is the one time that I DO agree!!!! He HAS aged somewhat..I prefer his hair much shorter..I just hope he doesn't let himself go like Shatner has, you know what I mean? What's up with the longer hair on men??? It looks so..shabby..and unkept! JEESH!

I don't think he looks that bad for a guy who's coming up on 55. Maybe he's gained a little weight and his hair has turned partly gray, but I wouldn't call his physical condition "sad". It's not like he's confined to a wheelchair or anything!

@ Good Will Riker, this is one of the worst RB picture I know.

But, I met him 2 years ago and I can tell you, that he`s still very good looking. I was very impressed. He didn`t age that much and he's gained only a little weight. His hair is grey, but he lookes good with it.
Look at this picture, taken 2 years ago

On topic:

Beltran isn`t a boxer and he had never boxed before. And he had only a few days time to train.
Therefore, he was simply not in shape. But I think he has done well.

I like Chakotay. I like the episodes he was featured in -- even "The Fight" -- very much.
Then, why was he wearing a big sweater while boxing in that episode?

Wouldn't it get all sweaty under there, and wouldn't it have been better for him to just take off that sweater and expose his big, meteor-sized gut! :rommie:
Seriously, we have seen boxers go topless or wear tank tops into the ring, but a whole sweater? What was Chakotay hiding underneath all of that layer of clothing?

How much skin do you need to see?

If Robert Beltran were cast in a Rocky film, he would have had to box in the ring bare-chested just like Sylvester Stallone, Carl Weathers, Mr. T, Hulk Hogan, Dolph Lundgren, Tommy Morrison, and Antonio Tarver.

Those are the rules for men in Hollywood boxing films, unelss you happen to be the character of Steve Urkel from TV's "Family Matters." :guffaw:

He likely would've taken steroids, like many of the male stars do when they're going to be shirtless in film. Supposedly, such temporary usage isn't all that harmful.

It is what Kevin Costner was temporarily on while filming Waterworld.

As for Sylvester Stallone, he started using the juice when he started training for Rocky III. The man switched to human growth hormones sometime in his 50's.

He had some work done, too, right?

So many actors/actresses getting work done really don't look that good--their eyes and/or mouths look..."off." Kinda plastic-y.

It is apparent Sly Stallone had "double-eyelid" surgery back in the early 80's to raise the epicanthic folds of his eyeslids to correct those "droopy eyes" which inadvertently gave him a sleepy look evidenced in his earlier films Rocky, F.I.S.T., Paradise Alley, and Rocky II. He also got a nose job too prior to Rocky III, which the character of Paulie (Burt Young) comments in his jail cell at the beginning of that film. A new body too for Rocky III on top of that.

Just imagine where Sly Stallone would be today had he not sold his screenplay for Rocky in 1975? He would probably have grey, balding hair (He got hair extensions in the early 90's), sagging skin, and a gut working behind a liquor store he owns somewhere in New York, living with a second wife, couple kids and even grandkids.
