"The Fight" - Don't most boxers show a lot of skin while they box?

I like Chakotay. I like the episodes he was featured in -- even "The Fight" -- very much.
Then, why was he wearing a big sweater while boxing in that episode?

Wouldn't it get all sweaty under there, and wouldn't it have been better for him to just take off that sweater and expose his big, meteor-sized gut! :rommie:
Seriously, we have seen boxers go topless or wear tank tops into the ring, but a whole sweater? What was Chakotay hiding underneath all of that layer of clothing?

The story that Beltran told is that the producers switched filming order for this episode, and he didn't have enough time to get into shape. This sounds like a flimsy excuse to me; surely, if you are in a television show where you are going to be on camera every week, you could make the effort to be in shape all the time?

My alternative story is that the network was planning on spinning Chakotay off into a "Boxing across Newfoundland" series, and this was a test to see how audiences reacted to the idea of a sweater-wearing boxer.

In either case, I found a mate for him here

Don't boxers wear T-Shirts while training in the ring?

Where's Oscar De La Hoya when you need him?

This is a non-sequitur to my quote; yours has nothing to do with whether I liked Chakotay or the episode.

One of the reasons why "The Fight" is not a fan favorite is because not only due to the quality of the script, but the fact that viewers are left scratching their heads as to why a boxer in an actual ring fight is perspiring through the wearing of a heavy sweater when all boxing films up to that point show the boxers either fight topless or wearing at least a t-shirt/tank top combo. Seriously, it was not like Chakotay was fighting in arctic weather or anything? ;)

Glad he told the truth like he usually does when it came to his involvement in "Star Trek: Voyager."

A lot of boxers do, in fact, spar in sweatshirts. Sometimes, the sleeves have been cut off.

In the 24th century, who knows.

Sparring, well of course.

However, Chakotay was in an actual boxing match with an alien opponent. With all that perspiration, he should have doffed his shirt.

Chakotay boxing in a big sweater was equivalent to Tobey Maguire's poorly-timed quips as the webslinger Spider-Man in my book.

It's plausible enough to me. Filming a TV show is about ten days each week of 22-hour workdays where you can't do anything that works up a sweat which might screw up your makeup and push filming later, you have to catch sleep where you possibly can, and the food is whatever craft services has and which may not be selected for its optimum body-building properties. It's challenging enough to stay in shape good enough to appear on television; to appear as a credible athlete is packing another big challenge into a nasty workload.

Then, how was the entire main cast of "Star Trek: Enterprise" able to achieve this, especially Scott Bakula who was 50 years old when the show came to an end?

What is the big deal about wearing a shirt? He not a realy boxer, he is an actor in a tv show. Everything not always be correct and one hundred percent acurate but you have to forgive certain things because it a tv show

It's just an excuse to see Beltran nekkid.

Gross...

There are actors with physically fit bodies that put Beltran's "jelly roll" to shame such as Joe Piscopo and Hank Azaria who don't have much of a following with female fans to begin with.

Which begs the question?

Do women find out of shape men with handsome faces wearing good clothes more attractive than not so attractive looking male faces with fit bodies?

Physical body not as important as actual person. Not everyone so superficial. There more to a person than just looks

True, true.

I'd never win a beauty contest, but Hubby loves me.

And when people ask if I think Hubby is good-looking, I say, "Well the only calendar he'll be asked to pose for is 'Pharmacists You Can Trust'", but to me, he's very good looking.

You so beat me to the Gross comment. But regardless, I second that notion. I have no time for Beltran anyways. The guy is a tool in my opinion. His character was awful.

To stay on topic though, yes, boxers box topless sometimes, but they also where sweatshirts and sleeveless t's. Havent you ever seen Rocky?

Robert Beltran was willing to be used by corporate media to pick up easy weekly paychecks from UPN and from convention appearances, while allowing Hollywood to exploit his Native American heritage. This sycophant is definitely a "tool" in my book.

The character of Rocky Balboa may have worn sweats while sparring, but when it came to entering the ring in a boxing match, the man doffed his shirt.

He was so ripped and in shape that he put Mason "The Line" Dixon who has smooth skin with no discernible muscle definition to shame.
