the feds be tracking our cars

I think any divice like that on my car would suffer from accidentally falling loose and getting crushed under a tire. If that didn't occur I would look for a parked train, taxi or commercial truck to transfer it to.

Maybe a garbage truck? Would be fun tracking that down.. slow motion... from house to house..

You know, there are quite a few things that come into my mind which I would really like to say to that describe my feelings concerning this. *bleeep* If I happened to be rich, I guarantee that I would sue the agency for every penny that I could get out of it. If law enforcement has no hard evidence which gives them the right to open investigation, they should mind their own darn business.

Afifi’s encounter with the FBI ended with the agents telling him not to worry.
“We have all the information we needed,” they told him. “You don’t need to call your lawyer. Don’t worry, you’re boring. “

^ What they actually ment to say was, "Please don't call your lawyer, because we just made asses out of ourselves and we don't want you to try to hold us accountable."

If I had been in his position, there are a couple of things I think I would've done differently. First, I wouldn't have referenced coming home to two "stoned off their asses" people, just in case that would invite more attention from law enforcement. Second, since the article references that he does have a lawyer, I would've taken the tracking device to the lawyer as soon as it was identified and left it in his/her custody to begin inquiries into why it was affixed to the vehicle.

That was his friend Khaled who said that, and he said it to the newspaper and not the FBI.

^ Ah okay. I didn't check the link again (I first looked at the Reddit post back when this thread was created) but I had thought the person tracked had posted that bit online. Thanks for the correction.

They may or may not have had a warrant; the article doesn't say. Either way, you'd lose and not get a cent because as long as they met the standard for placing the device in the first place, you can't sue. And, yes, other than that one guy's friend's cousin who was harassed by the cops that one time, law enforcement does have evidence which gives them the "right" to open investigations. Whether it ultimately leads to a case and conviction is another matter completely.

Kids, your cars have several dozen computers in them now.

In a few years all cars will be wirelessly connected with every light, speed sign and cop in the country. You won't be able to do ANYTHING without them knowing it.

Next step after that the insurance companies will get laws passed that your car won't even LET you start to do something.

Welcome to your future...

Assuming I had the money, I wouldn't want to win. I would just want the reward of attracting lots of publicity, and PRESS, and soaking up the time and telephone lines of lots of government employees.

Additionally, if I were rich... and I'm talking Bill Gates rich, and I wanted to cause them trouble... there are any number of ways to dig up (or create) or coincidentally discover all manner of unrelated dirt on a certain agency, individual, or group of people.

There are a few times in life when you are holding all of the cards and have the upper hand. Those are the moments to live for and cherish, because revenge is sweet, and the dark side is powerful. At all other times, seek out key strategic advantages by discretely making your enemies' lives living hell without ever letting the smile and endearing charm fade from your face.
