'The Event' Cast Completely Confused by Own Show

At two years into its run, The X-Files also seemed to have a planned storyline that made sense. As much as I am enjoying Fringe, I'm always going to be wary that it will all fall apart at some point.
Except that Fringe has even me more answers to the overall mystery of the show in two seasons than The X Files did in 9 years and two movies.
Yes, which is exactly why I compared the state of the shows based on where Fringe currently stands: at the end of season 2, preparing for season 3. It makes no sense to compare a show as mythology-heavy as Fringe to an entirely finished franchise. In my opinion, at the end of each season 2, Fringe and The X-Files stand comparatively similar in terms of their respective mythologies.

After watching X-Files a year ago for the first time on DVD, I wasn't confused by the mythology as many people said they were when they watched it as it aired. They seemed to answer all the questions. Maybe over 9 years some details were forgotten making the mythology more confusing? I think it works better on DVD.

I rewatched it recently too, and I agree. They answer pretty much everything, and the mythology makes plenty of sense.

Even so, by the end of Season 2, The X-Files had barely scratched the surface of its mythology. It was still a show comprised mostly of standalone, non-mythology episodes.

^ Which makes Fringe better than The X-Files at this point.

Sure we got a lot of answers to question on X-Files, the answers were just really lame.

Day One? It went from series to mini-series to two-hour movie to never aired.

Between miniseries and 2 hour movie it was a 4 hour movie.
It'll probably be webisodes and a graphic novel before too long.
I'd say it's on its way to being a punchline. :)

After the suckiness of Lost, with insufficient ending and so very few answers, I'm not sure about committing to a 'big hype' item like TE. This secrecy on set crap just seems like more hype to me. The crew could get together after hours and talk, for example.

I'll wan tot see msome very good reviews. And even then...

At the moment, "The Event" smells like "Flashforward" to me.

Yeah, exactly. Same here. It almost seems like they're trying to replicate the show in order to have a second chance at it without it actually being FlashForward. My guess is that it's going to be set two years from now, in 2012, dealing with the world ending. That's the only thing I can think of that would make sense of being called "The Event".

Anybody know whatever happened to that Alien-Invasion miniseries that NBC was going to air? Did they air it yet or is it still sitting on the shelf?
You know what's funny? When I saw this thread, I thought The Event was Day One and thought "Ah, so this is finally airing but cast finds it confusing. Wonderful." Oops.

I probably won't bother with this. I only checked out FlashForward for it's awesome cast and was mostly disappointed by it (I still haven't caught up with it after it's mid-season finale). The Event seems like another round of the same without the awesome cast. I'll wait and see what others say but I really don't have the kind of time to watch another series (beyond Futurama, Eureka and House). Hell, I still need to watch Fringe because my friends keep telling me it's "my kind of show."

I saw an interview in I think TV guide where one of the writers/producers said that details about 'the event' would be revealed as early as episode 2 and not to worry about it being dragged out because more detailed information about it would be revealed early in season 2

so there's a fair chance what the event really is will never be revealed in the show if it has to make it to season 2 imo.

Bump.

We got the first ep in Australia tonight. I haven't seen a thread about this show wondered if anyone watched it.

I could only watch about 20 min, it seemed too much like too many other shows I've invested too much time in for a shitty payoff, like Lost, Heroes, Flashforward, Ashes to Ashes, and a handful of others.

Any thoughts?

Lots of people did. ;)

It was okay at best, I thought. Didn't really care about any of the characters, and that's what a pilot needs to make you do to get you to tune in for the next episode. I'm thinking I'll give it one more episode to see if there's any better character work done. If there isn't, I'm gone.
