The Enterprise E in the Delta Quadrant

The Enterprise also had families on board - so not so much desperate rush to get back since the kids were with the parents, husbands with wives etc.

But oh imagine the hoohah! Look at how upset some of us are at Janeway being killed off in a book written yonks after the end of Voyager ..... imagine if at the end of seven years of TNG they were sent to the other side of the galaxy and some of the crew killed off! Trek BBS would become a bit of an ugly place methinks....

In Universe: They would be much better suited with the much larger and more powerful sovereign-class ship. The Kazons wouldn't even have scratched it's paint. I think that since the Enterprise's crew count is much higher then Voyager's, the Maquis would have played a much smaller part, possibly resulting in Picard making Data his 1st officer and Chakotay 2nd (assuming Riker dies). If Crusher died, it would probably have a huge emotional impact on Picard, which should make for some interesting stories.

In reality: it probably wouldn't have been much better or worse then VOY.

A larger ship like a Galaxy or Sovereign class ship being thrown into that kind of situation would have been interesting. One thing that Voyager has the ability to do and, that the Enterprise-E can't do is land on planets. There would have been a couple of episodes that might have been very different without this ability. "Demon", "Dragon's Teeth" and a couple other episodes might have turned out differently without this ability. On the other hand, Enterprise-E had Quantum torpedoes, but who knows how much that would have really affected the show that much.

Janeway and the Doctor and at times Seven of Nine made Voyager worth watching. Without them characters, Voyager would have been sooooo boring.

Scene: Enterprise-E Bridge. DATA sitting in the captain's chair. PICARD, RIKER, and WORF emerge from the turbolift.

RIKER: Computer, begin day shift.
PICARD: Commander Data, report.
DATA: Sir, we have detected two class six pulsars and cataloged eight gaseous anomalies. Oh yes, an armada of Kazon have been firing at us for the past five hours.
PICARD: And you didn't go to Red Alert? Or even wake us up?
DATA: Not necessary, Captain; our shields are holding at 99.98 percent. I have observed that humans do not appreciate being woken from sleep for unimportant matters, and....
PICARD: Yes, yes...lock quantum torpedos; one per target. He sips some Earl Grey. Don't want to waste ammo, you know. Fire!

The Kazon are annihilated.

RIKER: So much for them. Next!

Uh, seriously, more or less: technologically inferior aliens can still be quite interesting – the Cardassians who were consistently portrayed as inferior to the Federation in everything save espionage being the prime example – but the Voyager writers for whatever reason weren't able to pull it off. And had it been the E instead of a “mere” Intrepid class out there – um, yeah.

^ Extremely off-topic, but actually you are the first person I ever witnessed using the correct dash on the internet. Almost everyone (mis)uses the minus (-) instead of using the real dash (–). Is that a coincidence or do you have some typographical knowledge?

I presume he's also doing the "Kobayashi Kirk" impression too... *pulls hand into shape of pistol and shoots at the enemies on the viewscreen as they are destroyed one-by-one* ;)

Well if enough of the Med staff were killed on the trip to the Delta quadrant we could have still had the Doctor. The E-E had an EMH too, and remember the Doctor starts out as an "out of the box" EMH mark I.

I don't see why 7 couldn't have joined up as well in a similar fashion to what happened on Voyager. I think Geordi would have been 7's mentor on the E-E because of his experiences with Hugh.
