Ernest Shackleton's ship, The Endurance, has been found virtually intact 107 years after sinking in the Weddell Sea off the coast of Antarctica. Shackleton's Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition sought to make the first land crossing of Antarctica and embarked in 1914. Before reaching shore, the ship became trapped in the ice. He and his crew were stuck on board for ten months before they decided to abandon ship and escape in lifeboats and on foot.
The ship was found at a depth of almost 10,000 feet and was in remarkably intact condition given the super cold water and lack of wood-eating microbes.
