Yeah. As I recall, the senior Pike basically only appeared in Early Voyages as a cameo, so the main discrepancies were the rank and the name.Like you, I've amalgamated different characteristics from both versions to reconcile things as best I can, though Bonanno's version of Pike's childhood from Dreams is the dominant version of the two overall.
Yeah, I take some bits from Crucible too, mainly from the McCoy book. The stuff about Natira and Tonia Barrows are too good not to go into my headcanon. This approach lets me cherrypick certain bits from (for example) the Crucible series that I consider as having "happened" in my main continuity, even if other stuff from those books doesn't necessarily jibe with the greater Litverse.
I also include the shuttlecraft accident from The Autobiography of James T. Kirk that solidified the Kirk/Gary Mitchell friendship in my backstory for those characters. I love the subtle connection to TNG it had.
And, to drag this back over to the main topic of the thread, in my headcanon, the last mission of Kirk's Enterprise was the one from the second DC Annual. I figure the missions that Icheb mentioned in VOY were towards the end of the 5YM, but not the very last ones. The Enterprise made it back to spacedock on stardate 6000.0, as per the annual, and when they docked the bridge crew applauded Kirk like they did at the beginning of The Lost Years. And Kirk stopped the applause with a raise of his hand, said "Not for me. For those who didn't make it back with us," and then joined in on the applause to all those who'd died under his command.
Mixing and matching bits from different stories into your own personal continuity can be fun!
