The End of Time, Part 1 US Premier Discussion-Grading SPOILERS

Does anyone know exactly what the Master said regarding the drums when he was being reborn? I can't remember the exact quote.

It was something like:

"Can't you hear them Lucy, the drums, the neverending drumbeat? Oh, how I've missed them"

The scene was OTT but no one does a mad Master like Simms!

While I like shows that have humor and sometimes even some camp to them, I think there needs to be something to temper it. Unfortunately, for the last few years, RTD's motto seems to be, "More is more!" When pressed into a corner, David Tennant can't seem to think of anything to do other than start screaming all of his lines as loud as he can. Combine that with an over the top plot, an equally over the top John Simm, and a score that doesn't know what to do during the "BIG" moments except GET LOUDER, and you just have way too much loud for one series. At some point, something on this series needs to dial it back a bit. Otherwise, it's not epic entertainment; it's just noise.

Christopher Eccleston was a lot better at knowing how much was too much. And even Tennant in his 1st year was surrounded by scripts that had a better sense of when to be wacky and when to be serious. They knew not to squeeze to tightly to elicit emotions. The reason why the end of "Doomsday" was so devastating was because they took care to earn it. The Doctor/Rose relationship was so much at the core of those 1st 2 seasons; it really hurt when she left.

Sadly, subtlety and an interest in character are things that the show has shown no interest in during the last 3 years. I'm always taken aback when I remember that the same writing staff that gave us Seasons 1 & 2 also did Seasons 3 & 4.

Oh yes. Only actor to play one character in all four seasons, plus only actor to play one character in all three shows. And how else could we learn the American perspective on the Moff's world crises?

I've said it before & I'll say it again. No American network would ever allow a news anchor on the air with those gigantic bags under her eyes. Every time I see her, it takes me out of the show because I realize just how little you Brits understand our irredeemable, superficial media culture.

I wish they wouldn't show previews for part 2 until after part 1 is over..... Its pretty obvious who those guys where by their headdresses.

Agreed. But at least I don't think they started showing any of those until after the 1st Timothy Dalton reveal. By that point, I had already guessed where this was going. I mean, if you have an omniscient Timothy Dalton narrator, what else is he going to be?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: she looks perfectly fine:

Mayhaps it's not the culture that's superficial?

^ I somewhat agree about the superficiality regarding the looks of these newscasters. Always exceptions of course.

Unfortunately, that's the only standard they seem to shoot for. With dozens (or more) of news & sports channels, they've run out of quality people with even a shred of knowledge about the subject matter (more obvious in the sports realm), all they can do is put "pretty" people on the air.

I like her for the fact she has been one all 3 shows. Now if only there was a way to insert her into Classic Who, TVM & K9 & Company, TVM would probaly be the easiest.

I've lived in the United States my entire life and I've been watching American news since I was 10, and while I agree that there have been times that Trinity Wells hasn't looked as good as most U.S. news anchors, I don't think that that's consistent nor do I think U.S. news networks would always refuse to put on a news anchor who's not gorgeous -- CNN has Candy Crowley, after all.

And her performance perfectly captures the overly-emotional, hyperbolic, near-propaganda of most American news.

And surely, some of the time she looks bad because she's been covering the Slitheen/Adipose/Sycorax/Ancient Lights/456 for hours upon end... she is AMNN's only news anchor!

The other reporters are busy on the days the aliens show up. If we saw a normal day, there would be another reporter.

Pffft. The aliens only ever show up in London. They're not in America. Why would American news cover aliens if they can't be bothered to show up in the only country that matters to Americans? They have more important things to report on, like Michael Jackson still being dead.

Well, it is a cable network.
