Yes and no. Cel animation will always have an advantage in that they can cast the perfect voice for the character regardless of what the actor/actress looks like. It has an unlimited "set" and "fx" budget, and doesn't have to contend with real world physics where things like flying scenes are concerned.

well now that Disney owns Marvel maybe they can make a 2d adventure based on one of their lesser known properties? Unfortunately they cant use anything that falls under any of the properties currently licensed(sp?) by the other studios...Id love a Generation X 2d film but being tied to the X-Men franchise means that Fox has sole right to use those characters(which of course they would never bother with.)

Does Fox have a lock on ALL X-characters or just the "big guns"?

Persepolis got an Oscar nod, so it was at least critically well received. American 2D animation which is ubiquitous on terms akin to CGI films clearly isn't happening anytime soon, though.
