The End Of The '00s Puzzle #1: "Ding Dong"

Zulu Romeo

World Famous Starship Captain
Admiral
Once again, DO NOT give the answers away in this thread: send me the answers by PM only please.

Oh, and this time I won't contact others personally with confirmation of their answer: this time it'll be done publicly. :)

Here goes...

I heard the front doorbell ring while watching television one rainy Bank Holiday afternoon, and when I rushed down to open the door there was nothing there, except for this strange message on a small slip of paper with the ink partly smudged. It consisted of a sentence and a string of numerical values, with only the first few numbers clearly visible:

"In black and white, from shades of grey, to all colours and beyond."

0, 12, 11, 7, 9, 11, 12, ...

The rest of the numbers were smudged, but I could just about make out the next few on that sheet of paper. Although the rest of them were smudged beyond recognition, I managed to figure out what all values were.

Q1: Following the numbers given so far, what are the next three values in that sequence?

Q2: Having deduced the answer to the first question, what then are the next THIRTEEN values in the sequence after that?.

I'll give answers out next Saturday, so you all have a week to think about this one. :)

I have submitted my answers. :)

But to be fair, I had the privilege of seeing this puzzle when ZR first made it.

True. :)

Given that, you do have the first question correctly answered.

However, the second part isn't completely correct. Have another go.

EDIT: well after having another go (and being on the right lines anyway) Jadzia finally has the correct answer. :)

Anyone else have an idea how to solve this one?

I think it's Fibonacci's phone number.

Black Betty. Did you say Black Betty? Boy, I haven't thought about ol' Black Betty in ages. Maybe never. But, she's real. As real as the dwarf who sneaks into my bedroom at night and steals my underwear. Yes, Black Betty, the mainframe. Boy, oh, boy. We thought about replacing her years ago, but then we thought, well, why not just cobble our new systems to the old one, with untold miles of spaghetti code and obsolete co-ax cable? We figured it would save money in the short run, and only later plunge the company into darkness, after we executives had all left for other companies.

Just received one new attempt at the puzzle, from the House of trampledamage.

Those answers are incorrect, unfortunately. Have another go.

I'm about to sign off for a bit - probably will be back later on Monday evening, to see if anyone else can solve the puzzle. :)

I've sent it to the real puzzle-solvers in my family: my sister and my dad. If they can't do it then I haven't a hope! Although my sister's just back from a week's holiday in Amsterdam so her mind's a little foggy...

I might leave it going for a bit longer, actually. Best to let some more people have a go too.... :)

Maybe give them another clue? Or a drop of oil in case things have rusted up??
Oh, you tease.... :p

OK.... seeing as it's (not quite yet) Christmas.... another clue:

Think carefully about the word "colours" - a word derived from it is very important in solving the puzzle.

Oh, and that sentence in the puzzle about colours has a cultural significance.
