The Eleventh's persona

Dinosauricon

Lieutenant
Now that we've seen the eleventh Doctor's costume, how do you think his persona will develop? Since each Doctor means a change in the personality of the Doctor as well. He's still the crusading time traveller but things are obviously different. Granted, the Doctor's personality can even change within his individual lives-Tom Baker's Doctor went from the somewhat detached bohemian to more of a clown; Davison started out grumpy but kind of became the 'nice guy'; McCoy of course started a total doofus but ended up as arguably the most sinister of the incarnations. Even Colin Baker was toned down a bit for his second and final season. Sometimes this is the producer's whim, other times it's the actor adjusting to and shaping his character.

Given what I've seen of Matt Smith's other roles, I doubt he'll be as hyper as Tennant and I think he'll posess more of a dry wit (If that makes sense).

I think he's going to be a modern (as in 21st century) version of Troughton. Moffat has said in the past that his fondest memories were of this era, and so far the look of the Tardis and the new costume are hinting that this might be the direction the character is going in.

Looks a bit absent professorish to me. A bit of a boffin. Also, the way he's looking at his companion, he looks like he could be a bit urbane. I like what I'm seeing.

I think the 11th Doctor is going to be both comical and grumpy and will have a lot of "old man" mannerisms despite his youthful appearance...

I think that's the point. One of the ideas for the Fifth Doctor, also a Moffatt favorite (c.f. "Time Crash"), was that he WAS a frailer man who looked really young, thus requiring a crew of young companions to do the manly stuff. This didn't play out THAT much for Peter Davison, though he's less known for physicality than some other Doctors.

This Doctor will obviously play his youthful appearance against an aged personality. Can't wait to see how this works out.

a man who can get totally lost in science, sometimes to the point of his companion needing to snap him out of it, but at other times, a man who can be charming, but often absent minded as to what is going on around him, and when paired with a companion who is likely to wonder off when she spots something shes like (in some ways as absent minded as the Doctor himself), a born artist she will often see the art in everything, very pro creation and anti destruction.

theDoctor never happy than when he is deep in science, and the companion set in an alien field, drawing the unique things she sees with the Doctor.

Is anyone familiar with Rowley Birkin Q.C., from The Fast Show? That kind of rambling with the odd moment of brilliant clarity.

'So anyway, I reversed the polarity and, what's that? Daleks? Hmm. Press that please dear'

I've been thinking he'd be a young fogey, an old man trapped in a young man's body - which is how Davison, one of Moffat's fave Doctors was initially envisaged. From the costume, I'm anticipating a cross between Davison and Troughton - but hopefully with a unique twist that is solely Matt Smith's.

Rather proper, a tad absent minded, but suave, a bit disagreeable, and a bit uptight. I think we'll see a cross between Troughton and Pertwee.
