The Eleventh Doctor's new costume revealed

I like the original shirt and jacket too, but meh - he'd look good in anything.

the fourth doctor had the most costume change..

from the lighter coloured jackets and multi-coloured scarf, to the red and browns of the latter 4th seasons.. which I think looked much nicer..

He didn't change into his maroon outfit til his final season. Both Doctors three and four went though numerous changes over their years.

Yeah, I can remember off-hand at least four or five different suits the Third Doctor wore (different jacket color/different shirt color), and that's without having seen any of his stories in a good long while. I'm sure there's probably more.

Long time Doctor Who novelist and former script editor Terrance Dicks said once that both the Third and Fourth Doctors were stylish, but in very different ways--one was a dandy, the other a gypsy (or something to that effect)...

Pertwee had at least three distinct styles: the white shirt, black jacket and big cloak of season seven, the velvet jackets of later years, and the big checked cloaks of various other stories. (The action figures roughly cover all three: black cloak in the Sea Devil set, velvet jacket in the Dalek/maggots set, checked cloak in the 11 Doctors set). Plus, in season seven, he probably gets into more 'everyday' costumes than any other Doctor except maybe Hartnell: t-shirt and jeans, caving dungareees, spacesuit, etc etc.

Tom starts off with the short red jacket, sometimes with a pale top coat on top, then gets the long red jacket and a greyish jacket during season 13, and there's probably a few more before the burgundy outfit turns up in season 18.

so wait a minute, was colin the only one forced to be stuck in the same outfit?? It is almost like the show at some point figured the doctor had to wear the same outfit all the time like a fricken super hero..

Are you kidding me.. I at least felt like the doctor took a shower off an on in the earlier incarnations.. but around Peter Davidson, and C. Baker.. I felt like they just said nope, he wears the same outfit no matter what...

I thought RTD was doing that until tennant showed up blues and browns..and robe.. :D

No, Colin had different vests, ties, and weren't there two different coats? (I may be wrong on that last part)

Joy

There were different coats, but they were all the same design. I think the only thing that varied in Colin's costume were the cravats (there were red, blue, and yellow ones) and the cat badges.

Peter Davison pretty much wore the same outfit, though I guess he didn't always wear the jumper. I guess Tom's last look was the begining of the "Doctor's outfit as uniform".

Would have been interesting to see how Nine's outfit would have evolved if Chris had done more than one year. Be interesting to see if Matt gets the long coat he seems to want too!

I'd like to see Matts Doctor evolve a look that the actor is comfortable in, i know he found 'cool' stuff in the hospital locker room (some of it just happened to be Smiths or at least inspired by him), but Matt said himself that he would like to see a few changes to the outfit. so maybe.

Not too keen on a long coat for Smith though, his frame is broader than Tennants so it may not look right, besides, its too early to see another long coat after Tennants one, maybe a few short/medium length jackets in different styles or something, unless theyre on some ice planet or land in uk summer time and need a longer one from the wardrobe.

Still, least he got the hat he wanted in the form of a fez for a few minutes in Ep.13;)

Yeah, I think Tennant pulled off the long coat very well, but having Smith have it would be too close to more of the same. They've managed to make both look quirky without being absurd and both are distinct.

If I were to pick the thing that stands out most about each costume, Tom Baker would be the scarf, Matt Smith would be the bowtie (of course). With David Tennant's, I'm torn between two things. The first would be his sneakers (which were strange when paired with everything else, which is cool), the second would be the long jacket (which he just looked so badass in).

This is insane, surely? 'Man Changes Shirt' has to be up there with 'Dog Bites Man'.

Christmas can't come soon enough!

Character Options is probably already working on a new Eleventh Doctor action figure in the new threads, but probably all it will require is a repainting of the current one...
