the elastic heroes

safarial

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
What's your opinion of Mr Fantastic, Plastic man, and the elongated man?

are their any elastic heroes that I've missed?

I've been a big fan of Elongated Man ever since I read Justice League Europe. His nose twitches when he smells a mystery!

I remember being a big fan of the Plastic Man cartoon when I was little and I've always liked Reed Richards. I don't know much about Elongated Man though. (sounds like a personal problem!)

I believe Elongated Man started out as a secondary feature in Detective Comics since Ralph Dibny is also a rather talented 'Tec with his Gingold-induced elasticity being a secondary feature to his ability to solve crimes.

I seem to recall he was one of the few heroes to have a wife at the time. Poor Sue! :(

How could you forget Elastigirl from The Incredibles? And there was a DC heroine of the same name in the Doom Patrol, except her power was growing larger rather than stretching.

Jimmy Olsen/Elastic Lad has been mentioned, as has the Stretch Armstrong action figure. Static Shock had Rubberband Man, who started out as a villain but became a hero. There was also Filmation's Superstretch and Microwoman from Tarzan and the Super 7; they were an African-American married couple, a man with stretching powers and a woman with shrinking powers.

I like Reed "Mr. Fantastic" Richards and Elastigirl from The Incredibles.

The rest of the "stretchy" superheroes kind of creep me the fuck out, especially the one with the sunglasses he can never take off.

Does Flatman from the Great Lakes Avengers count? …or howabout Skin from Generation X? oh then there's Shape from Squadron Supreme.

Elastigirl from the Incredibles. More convincing elastic action than the Reed Richards from the Fantastic Four movies...

^Well if they had cast a better actor it might not have mattered as much... But yeah, the stretching in the FF movies could have been done better.

Madame Rougue in the Teen Titans animated series was more of a stretchy villain on TV than she was in the comics, where she was usually used as a shape-shifter.

i think one big reason the stretching worked in the incredibles compared to the FF was that it was fast. FF made it an "effects shot!" incredibles played it real. helen was fast with all her stretching, it seemed normal, it made sense that it was just worked into her everyday life.

when you stretch your arm out to grab something, it's normally pretty fast, you dont give it much thought. if your arm could stretch a few more feet, nothing would change... unless you were in the FF movie, then you would stretch at speeds so slow that you would be better served by getting up and walking to the object youself.

Don't forget Metamorpho, Martian Manhunter and the Metal Men. (Alliteration not intended.) They can all stretch to a certain extent.
