The Dr M'Benga appreciation thread

Trek protagonists wear uniforms of Teflon.

Byrd directed and the editors constructed this in such a way that it's impossible to know what "really" happened. *

I'm inclined to think that M'Benga was plausibly in a state of mind to overinterpret any aggressive behavior on Rah's part.

*Nothing happened that they didn't show you. It's a story.

M'benga is totally wrong and is not fit for duty.

M'Benga was, and is, fit for duty, as long as he doesn't have to deal with Dak'Rah.

Hell, once he got over the initial shock, M'Benga was fairly chill about merely having Rah on board the ship. It wasn't until Rah started getting in M'Benga's face and harassing him about being "allies" that M'Benga snapped.

And there's not a chance in hell that M'Benga will be convicted (if there's a court martial). Any decent defense attorney will get him off. If he's convicted of anything at all, it'll be something like aggravated assault. Nothing even close to murder.

There may be consequences. And if there are, M'Benga will accept them. I doubt it will come down to a court martial though.

And the Klingons certainly won't seek retribution. Far as they're concerned, Dak'Rah is a dishonorable petaQ who deserved his fate.

Aggravated assault? The klingon is dead. It's not assault.

I noticed something M'Benga said in last week's episode. He said "I perfer saving lives to taking them." Reminds me of what Kirk told Edison in Star Trek Beyond. "Better to die saving lives, than to live with taking them."

This guy is a solid face actor. That's his strength. His dialogue delivery is... hit and miss. Although the mumbling can be unintentionally funny.

Whoever directed and wrote 2x08 knew how to use him effectively.

Everytime someone says they can't understand his "mumbling," I laugh because...

I am hard of hearing. I have to wear aides to help me hear. And I can understand him fine (or, at least as well as I can understand PIke or anyone else.)

It's an accent. They happen.

T I can see why McCoy was brought in to replace him.

No, you can't, because you have no idea that's what happened.

McCoy comes in later. You have no idea if it is to "replace" M'Benga or if M'Benga stepped down to pursue other aspects of medicine that he couldn't do due to being a CMO on a starship.
