The Dr M'Benga appreciation thread

Agreed that he's a great character. Feels somewhat like a Bashir/O'Brien mix in terms of characterization.
The actor is phenomenal. Great nonverbal acting.

Although he (the character) sounds like he's always been to a heavy metal concert last night and screamed his lungs out in the first row.

Olusanmokun didn't sound this raspy in Dune. Maybe it's the directors who are giving him these "whisper some more" cues.

He's a good character, but from what we've seen so far, a terrible CMO. Chapel seems to out-do him at medical and scientific 'stuff' at every turn.

It would be interesting to see him working in the same sickbay with Beverly Crusher. One very outspoken and outgoing, the other a raging introvert.

TNG Beverly would relieve him of duty, but PIC Beverly ... probably not anymore

He has quite an inscrutable way about him, like many war veterans. Intriguing character. He says a lot without saying anything. I think he understands Chapel's forte is bio-research and is coaching her to take the lead to increase her confidence. I wouldn't say she outshines him, he's training her subtly.

By far my favourite character outside Ethan Pecks portrayal of Spock...wise soul who can also kick someone's ass when required. Starting to climb the rankings in my Doctor's of Trek list.
Easily the most engaging actor/character on the show among a generally enjoyable case. If Marvel had recast T’Challa he would have been my choice.

I would've gone with a younger actor myself for T'Challa, a younger guy in his 20's.

We need Babs here in SNW.

I'd be surprised if his manager's not talking to movie people these days about action films, if nothing else. Dune would have put him on the radar for international productions, and SNW has turned out to be a showcase for him. IMO.

Honestly, he'd fit right into Fast & Furious. Somewhere.

This guy is a solid face actor. That's his strength. His dialogue delivery is... hit and miss. Although the mumbling can be unintentionally funny.

Whoever directed and wrote 2x08 knew how to use him effectively.

The character is ok. After the Rah incident I'm not so sure he's as great a character as I wanted him to be. He very well may have murdered Rah. He should have gotten help for his PTSD a long time ago. Aren't there any psychiatrists in the 23rd century at this point? Hes a doctor he should have known something was wrong and gotten help especially being the chief medical officer of the flagship of starfleet. He also developed a strength serum which has basically been used for war even before he used it. Why? Definitely not my favorite doctor. I can see why McCoy was brought in to replace him.

No.

They use flashing lights to cure PTSD and mental health problems.

Tell me you know nothing about health professionals without telling me you know nothing about health professionals.
