Box office round-up. Beyond has a $42 million weekend!! Beyond blows away the competition and the old franchise record in China, with a $30.1 million opening. $2.45 million for the US over the 3-day, and $3.2 million for the 4-day weekend which includes the Monday holiday. Beyond finished up 8.3% and up for the first weekend since it's release over the previous weekend. It also had a higher theater avg than three weeks ago! Worldwide, other than China, brought in a further $9 million or so, but I don't know the breakdown yet.

This does not count Mondays' numbers which will supposedly be in the $700,000 range for the 4 day holiday weekend in the US.

Heh, that and limited 3D/IMAX reruns are bringing in a few million more, that's not even touching on what figures we'll see for the home media releases.

I already pre-ordered the 2 Disc/Franklin replica Special Edition.

I wonder if it'll be possible for STB to stay in theaters long enough to hit $200 million domestically?

Not a chance, STB only has several million more left in the tank domestic wise, $2 million this weekend in the US Box Office.

Considering the Bluray MAY come out Sept 20th. It only has a few more weeks, and maybe a release into secondary "budget" theaters to pick up the number, but $160 million is absolute max.

Brazil 1,7 million for the weekend.

And domestically Trek should end around 158-160. We should get another 40 to 60 million for the rest of the world.

China is nice that we have two weeks and no major releases (I wish w could have got that in the US).

So does that mean it's no longer considered a box office bomb?

Beyond was never considered a bomb....Paramount's other summer blockbuster Ben Hur now that is a bomb, but Beyond will remain a disappointment and under performer. When all is said and done STB will make over $300 million but that will still end it in a disappointment category.

The good news now is it that Beyond isn't enough of a disappointment to abandon the next movie altogether. A lower budget ST4 is the most likely scenario now, but ST4 will be the make or break movie of the kelvin version of Trek.

Assuming the grand total in China hits around $100 million and we see strong worldwide sales in Blu Ray & DVD, Paramount may end up satisfied at the end of this.
