The Doctor's real name?

I always assumed he was the Sid of "tell Sid". Think about it - would you tell anyone of your name was Sid after that?

I totally believe that it's really John Smith. So dull and mundane that it begs for something exotic like "Doctor." LIke when he turned all human in the one episode and fell in love with the teacher - he was just ordinary. Why would he be ordinary? That's because deep down inside, he's John Smith.

It seems that the Doctor's name (so far as we know) is Chrístõdavõreendiamondhærtmallõupdracœfiredelúnmiancuimhne de Lœngbærrow, as revealed in "Unfinished Business" series of online Doctor #9. It is unclear whether or not he was joking, however we do know that in Gallifreyan culture personal names are usually reserved for family, so I don't know.
Sample thoughts:
1. What, no Merlin?
2. "Cuimhne" is Gaelic for "memory".

I still say it's Omega:devil:
Well, he's the Omega as far as Time Lords are concerned, just as Omega was the Alpha. Maybe the Doctor's name is Alpha.

Rule 1: the Doctor lies.
Rule 2: BBC has no official continuity for Doctor who
Rule 34: If it exists, there's porn of it.

I like it when he uses John Smith

Maybe his name is roughly phononymous with "John Smith", like where DC's Martian Manhunter (J'onn J'onzz) calls himself John Jones.

I kinda hope they bring back his alleged possible origins of being The Other before he was The Doctor. I mean I am sure they can tie that storyline in somewhere after another...5 to 10 years of storylines?

The Doctor has many names :) I was thinking about something the other day after watching "Journey's End". Do you guys suppose that the Meta-Crisis Doctor assumed the name John Smith? For some reason I kind of like that idea. To Rose he would be the Doctor, but everyone else he'd present himself as John Smith.

On screen, the most attention we've had paid to it (at least in the new series) was in the episode "Midnight" where I really thought he might break and reveal it. Also of course River knows it (or at least, she did in "Forest of the dead". We don't know when he actually told her).

I really hope it's never revealed, at least on screen. Anything anyone could come up with would be dreadfully disappointing.

I don't even think Romana's full name (Romanadavoretrelundar) was actually her "real" name, probably more like her version of "Doctor".
