But not awesome enough for your head to explode simply from being in their presence. So...they've got some work to do.Having met both flamingliberal and JonathonWally I can confirm that they are both awesome.
Hey, out of curiosity, can you define the words "context" and "perspective" for me?
You know, this pisses me off. I understand that girls have to sit down. But guys stand up. How is it any less inconvenient for a guy to have to put the seat up than for a girl to have to put it back down?MEN: If a toilet seat is down, and they need it up, they simply flip it up themselves and think no more about it.
WOMEN: If a toilet seat is left up, they file a civil lawsuit.

I've actually been working really hard to prune my awesomeness whenever it gets to that level, because it's like impossible to get brain out of my overpriced, impractical suede heels.
Despite the stereotype, I've actually never had this problem. No woman has ever complained about the rare occasions I leave the seat up, and most of the time I put the seat and lid down anyway. Who wants to look into an open toilet? You know, this pisses me off. I understand that girls have to sit down. But guys stand up. I don't understand how it's even an issue. You need the seat down? Put it down! It's not hard.

I'd be happy to, if you'd just answer the question first. No ? Didn't think so.

Yeah, I've actually had my old roommates (male) complain when I leave the seat up, just because they don't like looking at it.Despite the stereotype, I've actually never had this problem. And are ballet flats really that unfomfortable waranting the sliping them off and balancing/bouncing them on your toe?
You want to address any of the points I actually made throughout the thread, rather than the points you made up in your head to get offended at?
Didn't think so.![]()
Hermiod, Get 't fuck. I've made similar generalisations about geeks, and I freely admit to being a geek. I think pretty much anyone here will admit they're geeks. We're allowed to take the piss out of each other for being geeks, since we're generalising ourselves.
Given this was supposed to be a light hearted thread why the fuck are any of you getting your knickers in a twist? Can't you just light heartedly take the piss out of the thread?
Seems to me, considering the thread we're in, you're taking things entirely too seriously. Seemed like dismissing stupid generalities with a stupid generality fits the thread, and your reaction to it seems very defensive.Hermiod, Get 't fuck. I'm a geek. I know that and I know I'm surrounded by other geeks. I, for the most part, enjoy that company.
I'm sorry, but JonathonWally's post did not come across as a joke. It read much more like a serious criticism of the way people on this board behave and flamingliberal agreed with it. Given the behaviour they have exhibited towards us "geeks" in the past it was very clear that they did not mean it in a joking, friendly manner. I really don't have another word to say to either of them so you can go back to your comedy stereotyping if you wish.
And I'm ignoring the first sentence of your post here.
But that's not quite it. For one thing, many of the women here are equally (and ironically) sexist and chauvinistic. For another, if all these people, of both sexes, are basing their beliefs on what they see on TV, then the problem is TV-- and, in fact, the media in general, from TV to movies to magazines to generic stand-up comedy acts. So now we must ask why these stereotypes are so prevalent in the mass media; and the answer is that so many people want to see them. As I think I said earlier in this Thread, or in another one, people find a sense of identity (and solidarity) in these stereotypes (and not just gender stereotypes, either). People perpetuate them by acting them out. Like most of the problems in the world, sexism is caused by insecurity.I'm continually baffled by this aspect of this board. Why is it so prevalent here??![]()
Because half the guys here don't know any girls in real life and are just basing it on what they see on TV.
Thank you. That's the answer I was going for.![]()
