The Difference Between Men and Women

MEN: If a toilet seat is down, and they need it up, they simply flip it up themselves and think no more about it.

WOMEN: If a toilet seat is left up, they file a civil lawsuit.

Having met both flamingliberal and JonathonWally I can confirm that they are both awesome.
But not awesome enough for your head to explode simply from being in their presence. So...they've got some work to do.

Hey, out of curiosity, can you define the words "context" and "perspective" for me?

I'd be happy to, if you'd just answer the question first. No ? Didn't think so.

You and JonathonWally can't understand the massive generalisation about the people who post on this board you just made, can you ? You can't understand that you're showing yourselves to be hypocrites.

This was a dumb thread to be sure, and I argued against it, but somehow, some way I managed to do it without insulting everyone in the process. Shame you couldn't have done the same.

You know, this pisses me off. I understand that girls have to sit down. But guys stand up. How is it any less inconvenient for a guy to have to put the seat up than for a girl to have to put it back down?

I don't understand how it's even an issue. You need the seat down? Put it down! It's not hard.

I brought up the subject of biological factors influencing the psychological differences between men and women to a female friend of mine last night. She got somewhat upset, equated blaming biology to "scientific sexism", and attributed almost all fundamental differences in how we behave to societal conditioning. Period. End of discussion.

I've actually been working really hard to prune my awesomeness whenever it gets to that level, because it's like impossible to get brain out of my overpriced, impractical suede heels.

Ah, such noble sacrifices...

Despite the stereotype, I've actually never had this problem. No woman has ever complained about the rare occasions I leave the seat up, and most of the time I put the seat and lid down anyway. Who wants to look into an open toilet?

You want to address any of the points I actually made throughout the thread, rather than the points you made up in your head to get offended at?

Didn't think so.

We all have to have our priorities. :(

Yeah, I've actually had my old roommates (male) complain when I leave the seat up, just because they don't like looking at it.

Never actually had a woman bitch at me for it, but the stereotype bugs me.

Basic rule of thumb...return to toilet seat to the position it was in when you entered the room. Problem solved.

And are ballet flats really that unfomfortable waranting the sliping them off and balancing/bouncing them on your toe?

Yes. I've gotten some of my worst blisters from supposed "comfort" flats. I've given up trying to wear "comfort shoes." They hurt as much or more than the cute strappy ones.

I addressed any possible criticism of what this thread is actually about here. Notice how it's before you said anything ?

Again, this is a dumb thread and it was doomed from the start but making sweeping generalisations in order to criticise people who make sweeping generalisations is not exactly smart, is it ?

The particular sweeping generalisation you made betrays the opinion you seem to have about many other posters here which leads me, once again, to ask why you post here.

Hermiod, Get 't fuck. I've made similar generalisations about geeks, and I freely admit to being a geek. I think pretty much anyone here will admit they're geeks. We're allowed to take the piss out of each other for being geeks, since we're generalising ourselves.
Given this was supposed to be a light hearted thread why the fuck are any of you getting your knickers in a twist? Can't you just light heartedly take the piss out of the thread?

I'm a geek. I know that and I know I'm surrounded by other geeks. I, for the most part, enjoy that company.

I'm sorry, but JonathonWally's post did not come across as a joke. It read much more like a serious criticism of the way people on this board behave and flamingliberal agreed with it. Given the behaviour they have exhibited towards us "geeks" in the past it was very clear that they did not mean it in a joking, friendly manner. I really don't have another word to say to either of them so you can go back to your comedy stereotyping if you wish.

And I'm ignoring the first sentence of your post here.

Seems to me, considering the thread we're in, you're taking things entirely too seriously. Seemed like dismissing stupid generalities with a stupid generality fits the thread, and your reaction to it seems very defensive.

^At least you can see it was a stupid generality which is more than the people who made it seem able to.

I'm continually baffled by this aspect of this board. Why is it so prevalent here?? :vulcan:

Because half the guys here don't know any girls in real life and are just basing it on what they see on TV.

Thank you. That's the answer I was going for. ;)
But that's not quite it. For one thing, many of the women here are equally (and ironically) sexist and chauvinistic. For another, if all these people, of both sexes, are basing their beliefs on what they see on TV, then the problem is TV-- and, in fact, the media in general, from TV to movies to magazines to generic stand-up comedy acts. So now we must ask why these stereotypes are so prevalent in the mass media; and the answer is that so many people want to see them. As I think I said earlier in this Thread, or in another one, people find a sense of identity (and solidarity) in these stereotypes (and not just gender stereotypes, either). People perpetuate them by acting them out. Like most of the problems in the world, sexism is caused by insecurity.

The idea that chauvinism is the province of callow men is a chauvinistic belief in itself. One of the most chauvinistic people I know is my mother, who buys into these 1950s stereotypes with a literally religious devotion. It's been an ongoing battle for me to deprogram my nine-year-old niece from all the crippling expectations that her Nana fills her head with; a task made doubly difficult by the fact that most books and toys made for young girls seem designed specifically to make them retarded.

The bottom line is that these stereotypes have persisted since ancient times, and there are a lot of people out there who find comfort in them.

Edit: Sorry, bro, you put the hammer down while I was composing. ;)
