^It is prestige quality television, though, and it raises the profile of the BBC brand all over the world. That may be enough.
Oh I wouldn't deny that, I've just never bought the conspiracy theory that the BBC wouldn't sack Moffat (or in this case will give him a say about his successor) simply because he might take Sherlock away from them. For one thing Dr Who must bring in more money than Sherlock, and is a more viable long term show, and if Moffat did take his ball home with him he'd only be cutting his nose off to spite his face.
I believe Sherlock has already had a S4 confirmed.
