The Daily Show in Tehran

I'm surprised no one's mentioned this yet. On Thursday, the Daily Show had Jason Jones in Tehran to cover the pre-election stuff and the election. Of course, what has happened since the election has obviously been of a bit more importance. The interesting thing is, even as reporters were told to leave, he's still there. It's one thing to risk your life for the story, but to risk your life to make fun of the news? That takes guts.

Anyway, is anyone else keeping up with this? Tonight, he was riding around on a motorcycle. His motorcycle driver asked him who he's talking to and he explains what the daily show is. Then he adds, "Normally we just use a green screen, but my boss is an asshole" :D

Yeah, I saw that. I was surprised when they showed Jones there, and I was like, "Wait, that's no green screen! He's actually in FRAKKIN' IRAN!". I am very impressed with The Daily Show. I mean, damn.

it seems to have missed out on the hype of Colbert in Iraq, but anytime they get out of NY is a good thing for the Daily Show IMO.

It was a very strange segment somehow. It's not easy to be funny if you know that the worst thing that could happen if you offend someone isn't that he gets pissed at you, but being brought in front of an execution squad...

Given the fact that you never saw his lips while he was talking about the post-election events, I highly suspect he already left and they were just dubbing it in to make it look like he was still there. I seriously doubt he'd still be there amidst all that rioting. Of course on the other hand, they showed him making jokes in the same room of Akminejad (sp?) making a speech which shocked the hell out of me...

Yeah, i don't think he's STILL there.

Something that Stewart said last week after the first "report" from Iran...basically, "we'll have more once we can get it translated."

...and the dubbing was pretty, well, to me, obvious.

He's obviously not there anymore, that segment last night was basically some stock footage of him when he WAS in Iran, with a voiceover.

on Thursday episode he hinted that the filming had already been done, it was just a case of editing

Looking at tonight's episode, it does look like that other stuff was taped before this went down.

They're still going with it as a look at Iran before these events happened. A four part series. Honestly, not their best work, but it's fun looking at the Iranian side of it.

I lol'd at Jason handing the little Iranian girl a carton of Marlboros.

Honestly I was cringing during almost the entire segment. I found some of the interaction with the family funny (keyboard playing lol), but the questioning on the street and in the cafe just made cringe.

Pretty sure they would let these people know beforehand that it's a joke.

Besides, im pretty sure the point of these segments is to prove that most of the people in Iran aren't bloody thirsty Jew haters with Bomb vests in their cupboards.

As long as he doesnt go to any military bases or fart in Ahmadinijad's face I'm pretty sure he'll be ok.

Charlie Boorman managed to go through Iran relatively easy on his By any Means journey.
