The Curious Case of...

Whatever it is called.

Does this movie like like crap to anyone else? It just doesn't appeal to me, maybe it's because of my dislike of "old age makeup" and overly whimsical stories. But this movie like like an trying to hard attempt at being whimsical, emotive and tear-enducing.

Not to mention the story seems like something I'd dream up while running a 105-degree temperature and doped up on a fifth of NyQuil.

If it helps, it was directed by David Fincher, of Se7en, The Game, Fight Club, Panic Room and Zodiac fame.

Not a man noted for his whimsy.

And the story was written was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, for Christ's sake.

Ah, Fitzgerald. :)

Lit professors have locked Fitzgerald into the Jazz Age box. There's his novels, especially Gatsby, and there's the short stories like "Bernice Bobs Her Hair" and "A Diamond as Big as the Ritz." And then there's his Hollywood period, with The Pat Hobby Stories or The Last Tycoon, his unfinished final novel.

However, once you get outside the accepted canon, Fitzgerald wrote some really varied stuff.

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is one. The historical sword-and-sorcery stories starring the Visigoth barbarian Philippe are some others. (Philippe, by the way, was based on Hemingway.)

He was a working writer, living off what he could sell, and not all of it fit in those comfortable boxes students are tought today.

Looks cool to me! :bolian: But I often like oddball stuff that nobody else does; and vice-versa. To me, what's incomprehensible is how that Xmas movie with Vince Vaughn and Chihuahua girl can be doing so well.

I think it looks pretty intriguing. David Fincher is a good director, and Brad Pitt is invariably good in oddball roles. Unless it tanks in the reviews, I'll probably see it.

Yeah, the previews look stunning. If anything it'll be a vividly gorgeous looking movie. However I think it'll have a lot of substance, since this is Fincher. I'm very anxious for it because this appears unlike anything Fincher has ever made. I also have this nagging feeling like it's going to sweep the Oscars, too.
