First published as the debut work of one Robert Galbraith, the novel has been exposed as the work of Rowling, published under a different name.

It garnered strong reviews when it was first released and became a bestseller, presumably the sort of response she was hoping for.

Well, I know what I'll be looking for at the bookstore tomorrow.

I just saw this. Crazy story. You've got to wonder what kind of reviews this would have gotten if influenced by the fact that its Rowling. I'm looking forward to reading it.

Oh what a tangled web we weave…

This book was turned down by at least one publisher, and I’m surmising it was turned down by more, before it finally gets published by an imprint that’s part of the same group that published The Casual Vacancy (convenient). Despite some positive reviews it had sold just 1500 copies…then as if by a miracle it becomes known JK wrote it, and it sells 5000 in just one day.

I imagine she was probably relieved it got better reviews than The Casual Vacancy. Now the big question will be whether this leak was just a leak, or was orchestrated by Rowling and the publisher.

This isn't the first time that Rowling has been connected to a pseudonymous crime novel. There were rumors in 2000-1 that she had written and published a mystery under another name. If she did, whatever book it was hasn't been revealed.
