The Crystal Maze is returning to TV screens

Having "celebrities" instead of members of the public is stupid too. Basically ITV are planning to take something beautiful (yes, the Crystal Maze was beautiful) and turn it to shit.

Apparently this is just one possibility out of a few game shows they're looking at for Amanada Holden to front. So it may not be returning.

I've been saying for years now that they should remake Crystal Maze, as so many other, much shittier programmes had been brought back. However, with Amanda Holden as presenter, and ITV-level 'celebrities' taking part, I'll stay away.

Oh God!

While I think at times the celebrity element can help a show, and I'd cite Strictly here, do they have to be in everything? Do we have so many Z listers that we need even more shows to put them in?

And Amanda Holden...eugh!

Here's an idea, why don't the BBC bring back The Adventure Game? Only this time maybe the vortex could be real, every week a no-name celebrity might be vaporised...now that's entertainment

I said i was going to be less judgmental after being proved wrong about star trek ,James Bond and Catherine Tate on who but is more Holden such a good idea:shifty:

ha ha, well nobody's wrong all the time!

I don't get the Amnda Holden love...then again I don't get Piers Morgan or Ant and Dec either!

The programme was no fun once Richard O'Brien left. The games were interesting to me for the first couple of viewings, but repetitive and tiresome after that. In my opinion, they were just a background setting for Richard to perform comedy through, which is what the programme was really about. It's his programme. He is a joy to watch. :)

He is, but actually I thought Ed Tudor Pole did pretty well under the circumstances. ROB was pretty much an impossible act to follow, especially with a format as unusual as TCM where his personality, as you say, was so integral to it, but Ed didn't make a hash of it at all. At times you felt he was trying too hard - his "banter" with the computer in the Futuristic Zone was a bit toe-curling - but he came across as very likeable and developed a good rapport with the teams.

ROB was still much better though :techman:

As for Amanda Holden? No thanks.

Mark me down for tickets to that recording, i would enjoy that immensely, but they should have a celebrity version first were Piers Morgan and Ant and DEC are bludgeoned to a inch of their deaths with a aspidistra, then forced to swallow plastic tokens while they drag they crippled bodies across the vortex grid game.

These sentiments exactly.

The Crystal Maze was a fun show back in its heyday - there is no way they can recreate the fine touch that Channel 4 and Chatsworth Television gave it in the early 90s, plus all the additional characters (especially Mumsey) added to its charm. For me the other great joy wasn't only in the hosts (see above), but also in seeing how the contestants fared to both comprehend the games and then solve them, and it was quite amusingly sadistic at times.

As was seen by the flash but somewhat soulless revamp of The Krypton Factor a short while ago (which I felt did do the job but Ben Shephard could never live up to Gordon Burns - and at least there wasn't that silly Krypton Maze thing at the end this time :bolian:), I hope the show doesn't sacrifice its lowish-budget charm for big-budget nonsense.

And yes, thumbs-down for Holden. If anything, get Ed and Oucho from CBBC to guest-host the Aztec Zone. :D

This isn't cruel enough for Piers Morgan. The man is slime. Even moreso because of ITV seem hellbent on making us all accept him as a lovely presenter and host. He. Is. Slime.

I don't mind Amanda Holden that much, strangely. And I have no idea what everyone's problem with the Geordies is. Holden for Crystal Maze though? Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.

Piers Morgan I detest on the molecular level, however. A better idea would be to resurrect Crystal Maze and trap the toad in every room consecutively before finally going down Haggis and tatties' route and then drowning him for a while in the final crystal. The length of time he's in there will naturally be dictated according to how many crystals can be inserted in him at various entrance points.

Yeah, bring it back.

But, but, but... JAM!

I think his HIGNFY embarrassment was one of the funniest things I have ever seen.

When was this? I don't seem to remember it.

Oh, Eddie Izzard made a surreal joke by simply answering "Jam" to a question, which had the whole audience in uproarious laughter.

Morgan tried the same joke the very next week, and there was not a murmur from the crowd. Morgan whined "Last week Eddie Izzard said it and everyone roared with laughter as if it was hilarious" to which Hislop replied, "he got a laugh becasue people like him".

Later in the programme Hislop made exactly the same Jam joke again with great success. Morgan was visibly annoyed and and asked the audience if they liked Hislop, they loudly responded in the positive. Morgan was really upset and threatened to permanently place photographers on Hislops doorstep to harrass him. He came out looking like a total arsehole.

I guess I missed it... thought I'd recorded all the episodes too...

Not hard to make him look like an arsehole, I can't believe he even said he was annoyed about pay cuts by ITV, he thought he deserved more not less. Tosser.
