itle: The Cry of Eónerg
- A Short Star Trek-inspired Tale

Greetings, enthusiasts! Today, I present to you a short story inspired by Star Trek. Join us on this adventure as we embark on an expedition filled with astonishing discoveries, moral dilemmas, and the boundless wonders of the cosmos. Without further ado, let's dive into "El Grito de Eónerg" (Eónerg's Cry).

Traveling at superluminal speeds through space, the USS Sobek, an interstellar starship belonging to the United Federation of Planets, with a profile resembling the fearsome reptile that embodied the Egyptian god from which it takes its name, had a crew of 150 individuals composed of highly skilled scientists, engineers, and officers. It had been equipped a few years prior with advanced weapon and defense systems, as well as long-range communication and exploration systems, and advanced sensors to contact new forms of life and explore new worlds. It also had facilities and equipment for scientific research and the study of cosmic phenomena.

While on an exploration mission, while studying the effects of a nearby gravitational singularity using the ship's advanced sensors, they detected an unusually atypical hertzian-gravitational field in a region near the singularity. The signals grew stronger, and the ship began to tremble violently, indicating the presence of a massive and unknown object. The commander ordered their team to investigate further, and the ship approached the extreme gravitational region. What they discovered there exceeded all their expectations.

Near the unexplored event horizon, Officer Rodriguez received a strange signal from the vicinity. Despite the dangers and challenges presented by the area, the Commander decided to investigate the signal. The crew was in a state of anticipation and nervousness as they slowly approached the object. The danger lurked within the spherical silhouette, filled with empty and dark space, framed by the black velvet dotted with twinkling stars.

When they got close enough, they could see that it was a source of anomalies of immense magnitude, enormous and mysterious, completely different from anything they had seen before. It appeared to be composed of stationary electromagnetic and gravitational waves. It fed off the electromagnetic field of the infinitely dense object and seemed to be protected by it.

The exploratory ship kept a safe distance, studying and observing the creature from afar. The creature seemed to be more than just distortions or anomalies.

They decided to name it "Eónerg," in honor of the timeless time it had spent orbiting within the gravitational field; it fed on the energy of the gravitational singularity. They discovered that the entity was essentially composed of stationary electromagnetic and gravitational waves, due to the excessive gravity generated by the dark colossus. Fascinated by the discovery, the USS Sobek attempted to establish contact with the entity, but quickly realized that it was dangerous and highly aggressive. The electromagneto-gravitational field that confined it began to oscillate erratically, and the entity released a burst of energy that struck the ship, causing serious damage to its systems, although it did not cause any casualties, it did damage critical systems. The commander ordered an evasive maneuver, moving away from the singular phenomenon.

The creature Eónerg was a being of pure energy, without a physical body, with an ameboid and undefined form. Its surface constantly changed shape and color, reflecting the energy it absorbed and modulated. When the USS Sentinel approached, Eónerg was attracted by the gravitational waves emanating from the warp core. It approached the ship, curious about the presence of another form of life in the vacuum of space. It was then that the crew of the ship could witness it for the first time, impressed by its beauty and uniqueness. While the ship explored the gravitational singularity, Eónerg moved around it, toying with the waves generated by the ship. Its appearance was mesmerizing, with its shiny and ever-changing surface, creating patterns and shapes that seemed impossible to describe.

Once the necessary repairs were made, the received emission before the attack was analyzed, identifying a pattern that could contain quite complex information. The standard Rosetta communication process was initiated. The process involves emitting alternative messages. First, a pulse is transmitted, and we wait for the receiver to imitate by sending a pulse. Then, two pulses are emitted, and we wait for the equivalent response of receiving two. In pairs, we count natural numbers, followed by the transmission of ten prime binary numbers. Eónerg responds in its own code with the same series. Then, mathematical operations are performed, obtaining the encoding of true and false, and so on. We create a "dictionary" in disparate measured times for the interlocutors. Eónerg learns and responds at light speeds, but the significant space-time distortion dilates its response to a comparable speed as that of the crew. Curiously, the response and emission speeds were similar for both.

As the crew continued their research, they discovered that the creature possessed abilities typical of a living being. It absorbed and modulated energy from its surroundings, integrating it into its own being. A hypothesis emerged, suggesting that certain emission bursts with a special wave train architecture, capable of modulating and combining others, could be called "genes." These bursts could escape the gravitational singularity and, by chance, albeit with low probability, reach other distant black holes, remaining there with the appropriate interference patterns and amalgamation of fields to absorb other waves, grow, and evolve. They could spread this strange species throughout the galaxy like spores.

Eónerg was capable of communicating with the crew through signals in various areas of the spectrum. Scientists were fascinated by the prospect of studying this unique extraterrestrial life form. With each message, Eónerg's communication became more elaborate and understandable. One message, implemented with a stronger signal than usual, surprised and offered a different perspective—a compassionate, empathetic, and ultimately more human viewpoint.

In the message, Eónerg asks, "HELP ME ESCAPE THE SINGULARITY, I WANT TO GO BEYOND."

The commander and their crew, after hearing the astounding and unexpected proposal, faced a difficult decision: to stay and study the creature or to move away and leave it in peace. In the end, they decided to leave Eónerg in its natural environment and continue with their exploration mission, although the experience had been one of the most exciting and astonishing of their careers in space exploration.

It was not a random or irrational decision. As any student of our 24th-century knows, warp travel is based on the idea of distorting space-time to create a "bubble" in which the spacecraft would be protected while moving through space on waves of space-time that travel faster than light. It's like surfing on the metric of the Universe.

The scientists aboard the Sobek deduced that the presence of the ship and its warp propulsion system could disturb the delicate balance of the gravitational electromagnetic field of the Singularity. This alteration would affect the energetic confinement of Eónerg's being. The bursts were an involuntary reaction of the entity, serving as a defense mechanism that had kept it alive since its creation.

Using the same code in which they had received Eónerg's "Cry of Freedom," the communications officer sent the following message:

"We are the crew of the vehicle accompanying you. We have understood your message. We cannot approach you or take you out of the gravitational Singularity's environment without causing your death, just as we cannot leave our ship without perishing. Living systems require specific environments and conditions, and yours can only be provided by light-devouring zombies, the corpses of supernovas. But do not despair, nor wait any longer. You will never be alone again. We will leave a subspace amplifier in orbit, which will make your signal heard far and wide. We will inform the Milky Way of your existence, and you will be able to communicate with entire civilizations. From now on, you are part of a large community. You know how to process our signals. Communication unites us, bridging the gap of your solitude. We will be messengers of your curiosity and song, joined by other voices."

Eónerg had been waiting for numerous galactic rotations, hunting waves like an efficient predator, modulating them with its own and integrating them into its being, evolving to self-sustain by harnessing energy and developing intelligence, thus acquiring curiosity about the stars and the various objects in the universe. It had become a conscious being of pure energy without a material body, aware of its own existence. It wanted to communicate this to other consciousnesses but had never had the opportunity, a rare specimen.

Like a fish trapped in an aquarium, it felt limited by the gravity that contained it, yearning desperately for the freedom that had been denied for so long. If it were to be freed from its captor, its energy would disperse into the vast cosmos. Similarly, in the past, Earth had been the home of human beings, a vital environment they had recently left in search of other celestial bodies. Surely, consciousness, along with the desire for communication and freedom, are inseparable. Now, Eónerg could communicate and never be alone again.

The crew bid farewell to Eónerg with a lump in their throats, feeling that they had witnessed something incredible emanating compassion. They moved away from the gravitational Singularity, watching as the creature disappeared into the darkness of space, feeling a deep respect for its existence and uniqueness.

The mission of exploring near the gravitational Singularity was a resounding and thrilling success, but it also demonstrated the delicate balance of the cosmic phenomena that surround us, as well as the aspects and consequences of consciousness.

This act of respect and consideration towards other forms of life reminds us of the importance of humility in our journey through the cosmos. As a small spark of consciousness in such a vast universe, we must remember that we are not the owners or conquerors of these worlds. We are explorers, apprentices, and our greatest challenge is to understand and appreciate the complexity of the cosmos.

But that doesn't mean that our journey is insignificant or devoid of purpose. On the contrary, it is our responsibility to explore the universe with respect, learning from everything we encounter along the way and serving as a connection for it all.
The mission of the Sentinel had been an achievement, not only in terms of data collection and exploration, but also in terms of opening the minds and hearts of the crew to the marvel and mystery of the Universe.
Who knows what wonders await beyond the confines of our planet? While the creature Eónerg continued to float gracefully in the environment of the black hole that both confined and gave it life.

Interesting story. This almost reads like a historical account of the Sobek's journey beyond the borders of the United Federation of Planets. Keep it up, please.

Thank you for your comment! I'm glad to hear that you find the story interesting and that it resembles a historical account of Sobek's journey beyond the borders of the United Federation of Planets. I will continue to share more stories and fascinating experiences in space. Stay tuned for more galactic adventures!]

An interesting POV for the story - told from a 100,000 foot elevation. The main characters are not the crew members of the Sentinel, but the ship itself as a collective, as well as the critter. Nice critter design on Eonerg.

Thanks!! rbs

the story were to be written in a semi-journalistic style, discussing the events in a general manner without personalization and respecting the anonymity of its crew, it would narrate what transpired. However, in this case, the protagonist is not the Sentinel but rather the USS Sobek, which gives its name to the ship class and serves as the twin vessel of the Sentinel.
Electromagnetic greetings from Eonerg to you.

The Sentinel also has adventures to tell, just like its older twin sister.
But first, it had to spread Eonerg's cry throughout the universe.
