The Correct Way to Feel About Star Trek XI

When it came time to recreate and recast Star Trek, Roddenberry did it by creating TNG. He could have recast the original parts for TMP. He didn't. He could have recast them and done a new version of TOS instead of TNG. He didn't.

TNG was created while the old crew still was making money at the cinema box-office.
Broadening the franchise = more money.

I don't see that, other than involving Nimoy, Abrams has gone to any length to go to even that length. In the end, I see a producer/director, albeit a talented one, who had no interest in anything Trek until somebody else who had no connection to Trek came along, waved a blank check in his face, allowing him to turn Trek into Wars.

How, exactly, is Trek being turned into Star Wars by Abrams and his team?

i read an interview with abrams where he himself stated that this movie would have more of a star wars feel than a trek one.:(

If I remember correctly, he wants Trek to be as successful as Wars. Nothing more.

I've got no problem with a Trek Movie having a STAR WARS feel...

...as long as it still ALSO FEELS LIKE STAR TREK.

and from the very little bit I've seen so far, this Movie FEELS like TREK to me!

It would appear that some of you are having a hard time thinking of Star Trek XI in the right way.

You need to get with the program. We are running out of time.

As Smokey the Targ always says: "Only you can prevent franchise failure."

I...I...I think I had an unsanctioned opinion about the movie that was at variance with some other peoples'. I hope the damage I've caused is minimal.

I'm so, so sorry.

Every stray incorrect thought damages the integrity of the Star Trek franchise, much as every new warp trail damages the fabric of subspace. :(

Y'all got into this franchise for different reasons, but y'all come to the same place.

So now I'm asking more of you than I have before. Maybe all.

Because sure as I know anything I know this, if this movie flops, they will try again. Maybe on another timeline with another cast and misdesigned ship, maybe with this very bunch with the timeline swept clean. A year from now or two, they'll swing back to the belief that they can make the fans...better.

And I do not hold to that.

So no more running.

I aim to misbehave. :p
