Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension
It's a non-sequitur gag in a tense situation. Absurdist humour. Simple. To this day I STILL don't understand why the "Why is there a watermelon there?" scene is supposed to be so damned funny. I don't get it at all.![]()
What Jack Wolfe said, plus the fact that it's so random. The behind-the-scenes explanation was that the studio people really had no idea what Buckaroo Banzai was supposed to be, and kept sending back notes with the dailies on changes they wanted made. The watermelon bit was added in to see if they'd ask about it. When they didn't, the director knew the studio had stopped looking over his shoulder, and he could get on with making the movie. To this day I STILL don't understand why the "Why is there a watermelon there?" scene is supposed to be so damned funny. who you calling a John Candy movie "corny"?A John Candy movie called Armed and Dangerous. Or Planes, trains, and Automobiles. Or Uncle Buck.
Any John Candy movie, really
Brain bleach on aisle five.
Moonraker. James Bond isn't supposed to be corny... but when Roger Moore plays him here, he definitely is.
A standout scene...
