The Confusing Case of Captain Pike's Chronological Age

Sarek c. 2229 would be about 65 years old, the same age as T'Pol during Enterprise, and presumably may have been just as youthful-looking (ignoring the deleted flashback with a heavily made-up Ben Cross). We have to discount Spock's aging process, because he was half-human and who knows how wonky his biology is (especially when Genesis mucked everything up).

StarTrek.com puts Amanda's birth at 2210, which, if true, places her around 19 or even 18 when Spock is conceived (he is born in early January 2230 according to Star Trek Beyond), with a Vulcan noble in his mid-60s. We also know that she is his second wife or perhaps even a mistress at the time, and their relationship on the whole is scandalous (although this is likely due to the interspecies nature of it).

Non-canon usually places her birth about 8 to 10 years earlier, which is a little more palatable to my 21st century eyes. I mean, I don't care how enlightened people are in the Star Trekverse, it doesn’t seem right for a teenager to be starting a family before she ever had the chance to begin a professional career (of course, yes, she can and did both).

Logically, though, thinking as a Vulcan, it would make sense to "mate" with a young Human woman, if you are inclined to engage in such a relationship, in order to maximize the marriage time between the two. The ~46 year difference between them means that, conceivably, Amanda could live to a ripe old age (which she may have), and Sarek could pass away relatively young (which he, ultimately, did not) without worrying about decades of separation and widowness. Of course, I'd rather their relationship be a little more spontaneous/natural rather than think about Sarek trolling for 18-year-olds.

Spock said that his mother "was" a schoolteacher, in the past tense. I don't know if that was before or after she married Sarek. But I have always enjoyed the idea of Earth tabolds or their equivalent with headlines lke "Alien Ambassador Elopes with Teenage Teacher!".

Amanda was 18/19 when pregnant with Spock? Yikes.

Actually that is rather common. I suspect that most of us have ancestors who were pregnant at 18/19 or younger.

If pregnant at 18/19 seems too young to you, you should never, ever, ever look up the youngest parents in history.

You know the expression "a May/December marriage"? I know of historical marriages which were more like February/December marriages or January/September marriages.

But since Vulcans are considered to be culled in the prime of their life if dying at mere 200 or so,

No. "Journey to Babel" established that around 100 is middle-aged for a Vulcan, and TNG's "Sarek" and "Unification I" made it clear that 200 is elderly for a Vulcan.

The TNG episodes made the point that Sarek was senile - but due to illness, and apparently not due to age, given all the covering up (both the need for it and its apparent success). Sarek tried to fake being a healthy individual of 200, which apparently does not entail any senility.

The only thing we learn from "Journey to Babel" is that 102 is abnormally early for a healthy Vulcan to retire from his day job. Could be 300 is still abnormally early, too.

Well, elderly enough to get an Alzheimer's like disease. Who knows what the usual upper limit is?

There's no "usual" there: Bendii ceased to be a thing in the 22nd century, according to Sarek's wife.

But back then, it did affect Vulcans "over the age of 200" specifically. What to glean from this? Only that "over 200" is a thing for Vulcans.
